Exciting milestones at Wellen Park High School! 🎉🎓 Recently, we celebrated the topping-out ceremony for Sarasota County's newest high school, marking a major step forward in bringing this state-of-the-art campus to life. Set to open in August 2026, Wellen Park High School will be a hub for innovation, learning, and community pride. Spanning 81 acres, the school will feature a modern three-story, 325,000-square-foot academic building, a complete athletic complex, and cutting-edge Career and Technical Education programs. From a marine biology lab to a performing arts center, this campus is designed to empower students and prepare them for bright futures. A huge thank you to every worker whose time and energy contributed to creating this space, as well as to our incredible partners, Willis A. Smith Construction, Inc. and Zyscovich Architects. We can't wait to see this campus come to life! 🏗️🏫

Meet Mrs. Maribel Orduno—known to students as Ms. Maribel—the Main Dish Cook at Bay Haven School and part of the SCS Food & Nutrition Services team! Originally from Mexico, she has been serving up delicious and nutritious school meals for 20 years, combining her love for cooking with her joy of being around children.🥗💚 One of the most special parts of her job? Seeing students she once served return years later—this time with their own children in the lunch line! For Ms. Maribel, nothing is more rewarding than making sure kids are well-fed and leaving the cafeteria with a smile. Outside of work, she loves staying active with Zumba! 💪 #SCSTeamBehindtheScenes

Keeping Booker Middle School running smoothly takes a dedicated team, and Mr. Curtis Watson and Ms. Dorothy McDowell are at the heart of it all! As part of the custodial team, they work hard every day to ensure students and staff have a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. From early mornings to late afternoons, Mr. Watson and Ms. McDowell handle everything from keeping classrooms and hallways spotless to tackling unexpected messes with a smile. Their work often goes unseen, but their impact is felt by everyone who walks through the doors of Booker Middle. 💜 #SCSTeamBehindtheScenes

Meet Mrs. Shelly Renner, Administrative Assistant in the Sarasota High School AICE Department! Originally from Colorado, Mrs. Renner moved to Sarasota in high school, where she met her future husband in geometry class at SHS. Today, she’s been married to her high school sweetheart for 26 years and is still a proud Sailor, helping students navigate the AICE program—a journey she experienced firsthand with her own children, all of whom earned their AICE diplomas. 👏 One of Mrs. Renner’s most memorable moments was encouraging a student to apply to her dream university, despite the student’s doubts. That student not only got accepted but later told Mrs. Renner’s son that she wouldn’t be there without her encouragement. Moments like these make her job so rewarding! She loves interacting with staff and students daily, always finding ways to support and uplift those around her. When she’s not at SHS, Mrs. Renner enjoys spending time with her family—including her three children and two dogs, a Chihuahua and a black lab (spoiler: the Chihuahua is the boss! 😂). #SCSTeamBehindtheScenes
