SCQ champions the bold advancement of quantum talent and technology in South Carolina.
About us
South Carolina Quantum (SCQ) began as a non-profit organization started in 2022 in Columbia, South Carolina as the South Carolina Quantum Association promoting collaboration among academia, entrepreneurs, industry, and government to propel the advancement of Quantum technology in the south. After a $15 million dollar grant from the state of South Carolina in 2023, the SCQ quickly grew interest from other forward-thinking partners in South Carolina and others in the region and establish what is now the South Carolina Quantum. Our goal is to accelerate the future of Quantum ecosystem in the Carolinas built upon three pillars: Education, Entrepreneurship, and Engagement. Through these focused activities SCQ creates a collaborative network to advance a learning environment for Quantum Information Sciences, professional workforce development across all industries, and entrepreneurship for all.

SC Quantum welcomes students, judges, mentors, tech partners, and local and regional friends and supporters to #QuantathonV1 (#quantum #hackathon) tomorrow! Today we're thanking our esteemed judges and mentors. - Kanav Setia is a co-founder and CEO of qBraid. He earned a PhD in Physics from Dartmouth College in 2020, where he worked on quantum algorithms for quantum chemistry, with a particular focus on fermion-to-qubit encodings. Dr. Setia’s work on the Bravyi-Kitaev Superfast (BKSF) algorithm was the first to apply BKSF to quantum chemistry simulation. Collaborating with IBM, he developed the Generalized Superfast Encoding (GSE) for quantum simulation. This work was the first to show the presence of inherent error-correcting properties within the fermion-to-qubit encodings. Among many responsibilities at qBraid, he is the PI for the Q4Bio contract, for which qBraid is building a quantum software pipeline to understand protein drug interactions. Dr. Setia also holds a B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Astronomy and Planetary Sciences from the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology. After graduation, he worked for four years at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in the MEMS division of the Semi-Conductor Laboratory, focusing on the design and development of accelerometers and gyroscopes. - qBraid + University of South Carolina Darla Moore School of Business + United Community + Richland County Economic Development Office + Accelarise + BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina + DoraHacks + IonQ + Xanadu + New York University Abu Dhabi + Unitary Fund + Amazon Web Services (AWS) + QuEra Computing Inc.
