Schedulefly

In 1994 I used to drive my 1986 VW Golf to the Bridge Tender restaurant every Sunday to hang a paper staff schedule on a cork board in the kitchen. I still remember that car. Broken A/C made summers brutal and the heater in the winter smelled like waffles and syrup. Anyone who was on the schedule also had to drive to the restaurant to lay their eyes on it. You see, staff were not allowed to call the restaurant and distract whoever picked up the phone to go run and look at our schedule. We couldn’t even ask a co-worker to take a pic of it and text it to us. 1994, remember. Our only option was to get in the car and drive down there, park, get out the car and walk inside and look at it. So much effort required. So much gas and paper wasted. So many land line phone calls (when am I working? And who am I working with??) and distractions for managers when shifts were traded or changed. All week long the checking and changes happened. Manually. Then, on Sunday, a fresh paper schedule was delivered by hand again. Queue the calls on my college apartment answering machine and the distractions and scribbled manager approvals all week that eventually made it hard to read. And the lack of any sort of record of all the changes…. These very simple problems (that now seem silly) are why I created Schedulefly years later. None of us could have ever dreamed this!
