Please consider becoming a monthly donor! Your gift helps us provide resources and support to our grassroots partners across the country who are working to advance racial justice in public education. More than 90% of America’s students attend public schools - this work is critical to ensuring all children have the opportunity to learn and thrive. The easiest way to support this mission long-term is to become a monthly donor. For a limited time, we also have a special gift for donors who give $20 or more a month. Schott is a BIPOC-led public fund that pools philanthropic funding and fuels racial and education justice movements
About us
Schott Foundation's mission is to develop and strengthen a broad-based and representative movement to achieve fully resourced, quality PreK-12 public education. At the Schott Foundation, we believe that quality public education is a mainstay of our democracy. It provides not only a route out of poverty, but also the possibility to transform young lives. This conviction drives Schott’s grantmaking strategy, which seeks to create healthy living and learning communities and ensure fairness, opportunity and access to high quality public schools for all children. Schott supports an “Opportunity to Learn” frame for understanding education policy. This framework recognizes that to truly close achievement gaps, our nation must address underlying “opportunity gaps” — the deep disparities that exist in access to quality educational resources, particularly for low-income students and students of color. Schott’s core belief is that well-resourced grassroots campaigns can lead to systemic change in the disparities poor children and children of color face in our nation’s schools. In helping to build these campaigns into a movement, Schott recognizes its pivotal role as both funder and advocate. Our operational strategy extends beyond simple grantmaking to offer our grantees and allied organizations additional supports in network building, policy analysis and communications. It is this combination of financial and operational supports that produces well-resourced campaigns for policy reform. Schott’s grantees wage these campaigns at the city, state and federal levels, often focusing on a particular issue within the broader landscape of education reform.
