The mission of Science Philanthropy Alliance is to increase philanthropic support for basic scientific research.
About us
The Science Philanthropy Alliance is a community of funders who work together to inspire new, emerging and current philanthropists to dedicate a portion of their philanthropy to basic science. Alliance members act both as champions and advisors to other philanthropists to ensure more private funding is earmarked for the kinds of research initiatives that have led to the scientific, technological and medical breakthroughs that fuel our technology and information-driven economy of the 21st century.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and their partners are working hard to develop innovations that can improve the health of children and women—like new dairy technology to boost milk production and consumption to treatments that improve women and children’s gut health. These and other innovations can help decrease stunting in children. In 1990, about 40% of children under the age of 5 experienced stunting—or when a child’s physical and mental growth is disrupted by malnutrition. In the past two decades, that number has decreased by more than 15%. Let's work harder through investments and basic research! Read more here:
On #WorldStatisticsDay, a stat that might surprise you: In 1990, about 40% of children under the age of 5 experienced stunting—or when a child’s physical and mental growth is disrupted by malnutrition. In the past two decades, that number has decreased by more than 15%. However, progress has now stalled. It’s estimated that the rate of stunting will only decrease by another 1% by 2030. In order to get progress back on track, we need to double down on data-backed innovations that can improve health and nutrition for children. The good news is our partners are working hard to develop these innovations—like new dairy technology to boost milk production and consumption to treatments that improve women and children’s gut health. In case you missed it, Sacha Spector of the Doris Duke Foundation recently wrote a compelling commentary on how investing in natural climate solutions such as reforestation, wildfire management, and land conservation have the potential to reduce emissions. The science is clear that forests are the key to this success. Reforestation and natural forest management have the greatest maximum mitigation potential of identified natural climate solutions; on private lands alone, they could contribute up to 574 Megatonnes of CO2e annually – equal to nearly 10% of current national emissions. Could a Forest Moonshot be in the offing? Read more here:
Forests are an essential part of any path to meeting national climate goals in the United States, and there's so much momentum here to be excited about – including that an overwhelming, bipartisan majority of the American people support investing in farmers and forest owners to expand #NaturalClimateSolutions. But it's time to get serious about delivering on the full promise of #Forests4Climate. It's time for a #ForestMoonshot that activates the whole forest sector at the scale we need to ensure a safe climate future for ourselves and the forests themselves. Check out my vision, out today on Ecosystem Marketplace, for a climate-smart moonshot for forests in the U.S. that encompasses protection, restoration, and improved management for climate and biodiversity outcomes. By shifting tens of millions of acres into more resilient and biodiverse forest ecosystems, we can increase our forests’ ability to absorb carbon by 70 percent and help the nation meet our 2030 and midcentury net-zero targets. I don't know how to get there, but I know together we can. #ItsTime #ClimateWeekNYC Jad Daley Kevin O'Hara Tim Christophersen Julia (Osterman) Strong Alexia Kelly Climate Advisers Rita Hite Sean Penrith Nathan Truitt Alexandra A.
