Founded in 1895, the Scottish Building Federation (SBF) started as a traditional trades federation to support and represent the diverse interests of its members across Scotland. Membership spans from Orkney to the Borders representing large, medium-sized, and small construction companies. Distinguished from other federations, SBF delivers first-hand business support services, becoming more relevant to the needs of those it represents. SBF is a not-for-profit organisation, committed to supporting our Members working in Scotland. Through professionalism, exceptional service delivery and an efficient team, SBF supports businesses to thrive and adapt to the everchanging needs of the industry.

It was great to visit SBF Member Riddick & Son yesterday and to learn that they were formed back in 1772 !! Based in Haugh of Urr, Castle Douglas, Riddick & Son are an 8th generation firm of joiners and building contractors and were one of the first Members of SBF when we were established in 1895. Over 250 years of history and heritage in serving their local community.
We had a great time at the SBF President's Lunch on Friday with Euan Clark and guest speaker Richard Lochhead. Thank you to the Minister for Business and all of our guests for joining us on the day - this event will now be a fixture in the SBF calendar. Thank you also to event sponsors People's Partnership and Nicola Sinclair for attending. The event supported the Good Things Foundation and we were pleased to hear from James Muscat-Sharp. We were also grateful that National Federation of Builders Director Rupert Perkins was able to join us to say a few words. During the afternoon, the SBF Board were delighted to recognise Ian Honeyman for his considerable contribution to the Federation over the years.

We had a great day at the inaugural Scottish Building Federation President's Lunch. Thank you to all in attendance, all our speakers and particularly to Richard Lochhead for the keynote speech and some football and budget-related chat at our table. Special thanks also to Rupert Perkins from the National Federation of Builders for his attendance over the course of the day, and his warm words as we make positive strides with our partnership. A lot to talk about at the moment, and look out for forthcoming opinion pieces from our directors on all construction related topics. All in all, not a bad effort for our first attempt and we'll get plans started to make the 2025 edition even more of a success 👍
