The dialogues being fostered and work being done in the San Diego & Tijuana region are nothing short of magic. ✨ Countless organizations & forward thinkers/ doers are continuously moving the needle on what connects & strengthens our communities. We intentionally think about the spaces we need to create & sustain. We put our heart into exemplifying how we can conquer tremendous feats only by tackling them together. We dream & plan for a world that is possible - & then show people that world through years of resilient sacrifice & hard work. Last week, the World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024 presented the World Design Experience powered by San Diego Design Week. 100+ Experiences centered around the theme of "Belonging" over 7 Days. Through Social Artistry, I had the honor of supporting the phenomenal #WDC2024 team and coordinating the Mingei La Atalya Theatre and Exchange Pavilion programming. Being surrounded by hundreds of design-forward thinkers & absorbing the artistry of experts across disciplines continues to teach me that our best work is inter-disciplinary and centered on building & catalyzing communities together. The art of event production continues to challenge me to my core; but now I realize how much of my work continues to be centered on creating spaces of belonging for each other that transcend these events. This work brings me to so many once-in-a-lifetime moments & I cannot express enough how grateful I am and how this particular experience we created really was of the caliber of the #DesignOlympics based on its global impact, profound speakers who have honed their craft for decades, & the chance for us to shine a light on the work being done to tackle our hardest challenges across our regions. I am so deeply moved by this experience, the people we met along the way, & I know deep down I am exactly where I need to be alongside these phenomenal dreamers who continue to inspire & show us what is possible. Last week at San Diego Design Week, WDC Mural Activation was a total success. It was the most perfect day in San Diego, right in the heart of Balboa Park under the Exchange Pavillion. My favorite part was to see the diverse group of people who showed curiosity and felt encouraged to paint and express what community means to you?". We are incredibly grateful to San Diego Design Week for giving us the opportunity to present at four impactful sessions at World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024 💖. From our founder Sheba Najmi mentoring at Design Trek’s Speed Mentoring & AMA session (hosted by the incredible Seda Evis) to her delivering talks on “Breaking Barriers of Mobility & Access to Include Women in Civic Tech” and “Designing for Inclusion: Civic Solutions for All,” we're proud to showcase a decade of Code for Pakistan’s work in creating civic innovation for inclusive communities. A special shout-out to Zoe Birnbaum, who not only curated and led San Diego Design Week, but whose passion for empowering women in Pakistan led to the creation and livestream of the Breaking Barriers talk. Zoe’s support ensured that our women intern alumni, including Tabinda Qudrat, could join the livestream, and it has even led to new freelance opportunities for our intern alumni. 🌟 Many thanks to Zoe for going above and beyond, and to San Diego Design Week for making all of this possible! What a fantastic end to the World Design Experience San Diego Tijuana 2024: I am grateful for planning and hosting the sold-out ask-me-anything event where 14 experienced designers and creatives across 7 design disciplines showed up, shared what they know, created a space for real questions, and gave their time to this burgeoning cross disciplinary design community.
