“Seafood” can be sea vegetables and algae like seaweed—perfect for vegans and vegetarians. It can be beautifully frozen or tinned/canned/pouched at its peak freshness—a wonderful option for people that live far from the coasts or waterways. And it’s easier than ever to get seafood sent directly to you thanks to companies like Fish Fixe // Seafood Delivery, Seatopia, and community supported fisheries (CSFs) like Fishadelphia. Thank you to Seafood Nutrition Partnership for the stats on seafood & health—be sure to bookmark them as a resource for recipes & wellness tips! #NationalSeafoodMonth #Seafood

There’s nothing like connecting in person to make the world a better place—especially in a beautiful country like Mexico! Last week, our team joined the Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions’s 2024 Conference in Cancun —it was awesome to advocate for gender equality and equity in seafood, hear about emerging trends in the responsible seafood movement, and meet old and new friends! Plus, we celebrated 𝗦𝗔𝗚𝗘'𝗦 𝟰𝗧𝗛 𝗕𝗜𝗥𝗧𝗛𝗗𝗔𝗬 with a team planning session and trip to see the stunning Mayan archaeological site in Tulum. Well worth a visit! #SDG5 #SeafoodAndGenderEquality #ConservationAllianceforSeafoodSolutions

Women have played a key role in the global history of 𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗗 𝗙𝗜𝗦𝗛 as packers in canneries in Portugal and on Cannery Row in Monterey Bay, California. Today, they’re leading the resurrection of tinned fish by introducing new brands focused on delicious, sustainable, and innovative recipes! Not only can tinned fish be an excellent source of affordable and convenient protein, but you can zhuzh it up and take it from homey comfort to 5 star in a matter of minutes. We’re excited to announce that we’re teaming up with Sustainable Fisheries Partnership to advance gender equality in the seafood sector! The partnership will focus on engaging with SFP’s Supply Chain Roundtables (SRs), to provide them with the knowledge, expertise, and resources they need to address gender inequalities in their respective sectors. SR member companies will be introduced to our flagship Gender Equality Dialogues (GED) program, which promotes innovation and workforce development in the sector by co-creating space for industry leaders to develop actionable solutions to address gender inequalities. Another key focus of this partnership is to pilot SAGE’s gender equity index tool to assess SFP’s internal operations. SFP and SAGE can’t wait to work together to address gender equality, empower women, and improve fisheries! #SDG5 ##SeafoodSupplyChain #SeafoodIndustry #Fisheries #GenderEquity #GenderEquality

Did you know that Indigenous people protect 80% of the world’s biodiversity? This is a key part of why 𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞, or the intentional return of land (or areas of water!) to Indigenous people, is so important. Hear from Indigenous Texans about the significance of Land Back and why Indigenous wisdom and sovereignty are crucial to protecting the water and the foods we harvest from oceans, rivers, and seas. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #LandBack

What ever happened to “safe spaces”? Simply put, DEI work is hard, like really hard—and it requires bravery to get out of our comfort zones. As Dee Rolffs, MPA of the L3 Catalyst Group so eloquently says, “As we grow brave spaces, where discomfort is shared and expected, we begin to disrupt the fact that systems are doing what they were designed to do: perpetuate the current power structure.” So if you’re a leader in the seafood sector, we invite you to join us for the next cohort of the 𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥 𝗘𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗗𝗜𝗔𝗟𝗢𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗦, starting in January of 2024! This collaborative program will help you drive the transition to a more equitable future for all, ensuring the survival and well-being of the sector for years to come. One key skill you’ll learn is how to cultivate a brave space—both as a participant in the Dialogues and as a leader within your company—where people can speak freely and be heard. Did you know that the ability to harvest and sell seaweed is critical for women in fishing communities in countries like India and Sri Lanka? Policymakers and resource governors must understand this when creating marine protected areas or changing laws around access so that women and their families are supported and protected!
