SEARCHing to find the earliest road in English North America? We’re proud to have collaborated with the Jamestown Rediscovery Foundation and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources to look for a 17th-century road on Jamestown Island. The SEARCH2O team improvised a makeshift platform to deploy a sub-bottom profiler through a swamp. The results are “tantalizing”… Dig deeper 👉 https://arch.onl/2p8sbf9f Follow SEARCH as we continue to analyze the results and reveal what we’ve found. #Archaeology #Virginia #CulturalResources

📣 SEARCH is pleased to announce the discovery of USS 𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘵 (DD-224), a century-old US Navy destroyer that earned the unenviable distinction of serving under both American and Japanese flags during World War II. More than 12,000 years ago, the first settlers arrived in the Columbian Amazon during the mass colonisation of #SouthAmerica. LASTJOURNEY, a project directed by Professor Jose Iriarte, Professor of Archaeology at the University of Exeter, explores the impact these early settlers had on the Columbian Amazon and their relationship to the natural world by documenting indigenous rock art. “The discoveries we have made during the course of our fieldwork in Colombia have been incredibly powerful,” (Professor José Iriarte, Director of LASTJOURNEY) A series of these immersive stories captured by the project are now being showcased by Google Arts & Culture in partnership with the University of Exeter. On its website, the art and excavation is shown through videos, images and 3D models which were digitised by the pioneering archaeological organisation, SEARCH. 🌊 #WreckWednesday: Unveiling the Secrets of the Endurance Shipwreck 🌊 This week, we dive into the fascinating discoveries from the Endurance22 expedition! At a staggering depth of 3,008 meters (9,869 feet) beneath the Weddell Sea, Ernest Shackleton's legendary ship, Endurance, has been preserved in remarkable condition—thanks to the extreme cold and lack of wood-eating microorganisms at these depths. The dedicated crew recently retrieved an underwater drone used to capture stunning images of the shipwreck, which has remained largely intact since it was lost in 1915. These technological advancements allow us to explore the ocean’s depths and bring history back to life while honoring the spirit of endurance that Shackleton's crew embodied. The icy waters have acted as a time capsule, preserving the ship’s structure in extraordinary detail. Every dive not only enhances our understanding of the ship but also the harsh conditions that helped preserve this piece of maritime history. What role do you think technology plays in modern-day archaeology? Share your thoughts in the comments! 📸 Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust/NatGeo #Endurance #MaritimeArchaeology #UnderwaterExploration #ColdWaterPreservation #Endurance22 #HistoryPreserved #TechnologyInArchaeology

At the invitation of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), James P. Delgado represented SEARCH during the recent National POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremonies at the Pentagon. The event included former POWs and their families, as well as family members of MIAs, some of whom have been recovered and buried with honors because of DPAA missions. It was a powerful experience with remarks from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Secretary of Defense. SEARCH is proud to have supported the #DPAA on multiple missions throughout the Pacific and Europe. #NeverForgotten #OurPromise

In a world of gray literature, storytelling projects like this are what fill my cup. And SEARCH is the only CRM company doing them! This digital experience was an amazing, collaborative experience three years in the making. It would not have been possible without: Jose Iriarte for the years of research/community outreach and a desire to bring this spectacular rock art to the world; Issabella Orlando for her project management/stewardship and patience towards a noob trying to upload massive data; Pete Kelsey for his adventurous spirit and tech savvy; and Daniel Fiore for his talent, professionalism, and mentorship in all things creative. Nice to see this get some press at long last. This was an amazing project deep in Colombia with SEARCH to document 12,600 year old rock art. https://lnkd.in/g3RmgA5T Seeing these panels up close was unforgettable. Digitally preserving them forever with photogrammetry . . . is as good as it gets in my book.
