On Wednesday, May 29, the Illinois House of Representatives joined the Senate in passing the FY 25 Illinois State Budget. The spending plan approved by the General Assembly includes an additional $80 million for a $1.00/hr DSP wage rate increase, set to begin on January 1, 2025. Over the past few months, many of our friends and supporters took the time to reach out to their legislators to advocate for a DSP wage increase to be included in the FY 25 budget. As you may recall, the budget that the Governor introduced in February did not include any increased funding for DSPs. Thanks to your efforts, as well as the strong advocacy of the “They Deserve More” coalition, we were able to secure additional, critical funding for our incredible and dedicated workforce. To everyone who sent an email to a legislator, or filled out a witness slip urging support of increasing DSP wages, please know that you made a difference and we are so grateful. Your efforts truly matter. Thank you for your continued support and advocacy!
