SeaTrees protects and restores coastal ecosystems globally, to protect ocean health and fight climate change.

About us

SeaTrees directly supports communities and scientists who protect and regenerate blue-carbon coastal ecosystems. Blue carbon is the most effective way to draw carbon out of the atmosphere and permanently sequester it. SeaTrees works with communities around the world to plant and protect mangrove and kelp forests, seagrass, ridge-to-reef watersheds, and coral reefs. Our projects do a lot more than sequester carbon. We measure our impact with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The regeneration and protection of these ecosystems provides critical habitat for countless species, sustainable long-term employment for local communities, and protects those communities from storm surges and sea-level rise. SeaTrees is an ocean-focused platform for people and brands to take direct action on climate change. There are many different ways to support the blue carbon projects on the SeaTrees platform, and then tell that story to others. Our Vision: We believe the ocean has the superpower to reverse climate change, but we need to help by protecting and restoring blue carbon ecosystems. There's no time to waste – the global scientific consensus is clear that we have the next 10 years to reduce our collective carbon footprint. On Earth Day 2021 we announced our first major SeaTrees milestone 1 Million SeaTrees planted. We're working hard to find quality new projects where we can work together to plant the next Million SeaTrees. Longer-term, our goal is to support 100 blue-carbon projects in threatened coastal ecosystems by 2030, in-turn becoming a global leader in developing blue-carbon projects.

    Artist + Advisor + Activist

Surreal moment: watching Inger Andersen Executive Director of UN Environment Programme, use my latest installation to deliver a powerful message about Earth's fragile balance. When she declared the #BiodiversityJenga as a “Monument for Biodiversity”, it captured my hopes and dreams for what I hoped this would become here at #COP16 Honored that this installation is sparking crucial conversations here in Colombia. As an artist, there's nothing more fulfilling than seeing your work become a catalyst for environmental dialogue at the highest levels. 🙏 Special thanks to UNEP and Inger for this powerful endorsement. I’m glad that my art can contribute to this important conversation. Thank you also to SeaTrees for partnering up on this project and creating a real-world way to put biodiversity blocks back in. www.biodiversitygame.org #UNEnvironment #BiodiversityArt #EnvironmentalArt #ClimateAction #ArtForChange #VonWongArt #UNEP #COP2024"

Sustainable Textiles Consultant | Materials Innovation | UN Ocean Decade Endorsed Experiential Learning

Thank you to Haley Jain Haggerstone of SeaTrees / Sustainable Surf for joining us on our recent Textile x Ocean Connector Sail program as an expert speaker and sharing this amazing account of your experience!!! See the excerpt below: "All in all this event was an incredible experience being able to connect with other sustainability experts, to discuss how businesses can be a driving force in restoring blue carbon ecosystems to address climate change. Some of the ideas that came out of Haley's session include providing funding, volunteering, finding innovative uses for urchins that eat kelp (i.e. dye for fabrics or use in ceramics), using better materials and thinking about end of life." We were so honored to have you on board and support the amazing work you are doing to invest in the restoration of blue carbon ecosystems and look forward to seeing our industry invest more in blue carbon and biodiversity projects like yours!! https://lnkd.in/gp8fH-i2

The Ocean’s biodiversity provides livelihoods for 3 billion people, and blue carbon ecosystems sequester CO2 five times faster than terrestrial ecosystems.  However, only 4% of conservation funding and 0.2% of carbon market funding go towards ocean projects. We are here to change this. As delegates from 196 countries gather together for the COP16 Colombia Biodiversity Conference, we’re excited to debut SeaTrees Biodiversity Blocks—an innovative funding model designed to restore and protect our critical ocean ecosystems that are facing severe threats from climate change and human activity. To mark the launch, we’ve partnered with artist and activist Benjamin Von Wong to unveil "Biodiversity Jenga," a striking 21-foot-tall sculpture that serves as a powerful symbol for reversing biodiversity loss and combating climate change. These biodiversity building blocks are now live and on sale. We invite you to join us in (re)building our planets future. Dive into the full press release below: https://lnkd.in/gswsZSsh
