SPD provides public safety services to everyone who visits, lives and works in the city of Seattle
About us
The Seattle Police Department is a large metropolitan public safety agency in Washington state with nearly 1,100 sworn officers. We receive over 800,000 911 calls annually in a city of 84 square miles. We have more specialty units than any other department in the state, including: traffic, harbor, mounted patrol, major crimes, property crimes, crisis response, SWAT, arson and bombs, K9, collaborative (community) policing, forensics, training and community response. On a daily basis, our officers are asked to do a little bit of everything - from investigating and solving crimes; to patrolling our waterways, parks and city streets; to keeping everyone safe during sporting events and parades; to connecting our city's most vulnerable residents with much-needed services. The mission of the Seattle Police Department is to prevent crime, enforce the law, and support quality public safety by delivering respectful, professional and dependable police services. We’ve got to give a shout-out to the Seattle Police Department Traffic Section Motorcycle Unit for being so incredibly awesome! These officers work nonstop throughout Seattle’s busy events season to plan for an action-packed schedule of sporting events, parades, dignitary escorts, and other last-minute events and incidents that pop up. Once these plans are in place, then it’s up to the motorcycle officers to activate and implement the plans, while also addressing any unexpected challenges that happen to arise. 🚓💙🏍 They work incredibly hard, are tireless advocates for public safety, don’t get a lot of time off, and receive far too few accolades for their unrelenting dedication to Seattle. This year's Seafair Festival was no exception. ✈️🚤🎉 Because it takes a large team to perform security escorts safely, SPD’s Motorcycle Unit relied on riders from neighboring agencies to safely get the U.S. Navy Blue Angels pilots from downtown Seattle to the King County International Airport over Seafair weekend. HUGE thanks to the Washington State Patrol, King County Sheriff's Office (Sammamish Police), the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office, Skagit County Sheriff's Office, and the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, and the Lakewood, Auburn, Bellevue, and Redmond WA Police Departments for their support! 💙🥳🤝🫶 Please join us in thanking SPD’s Motorcycle Unit for all that they do to ensure the safety of Seattle residents, neighbors, and visitors as they walk, bike, and drive in our city. We are very grateful for all that these officers do to support public safety in Seattle. 🥰 #publicsafety #seattlepolice #spdmotorcycle

𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 – 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗪𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 At the Seattle Police Foundation, we go where we’re needed the most, which exposes us to officers from every precinct and unit, including special operations units like SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics). The Seattle Police Department is unique in that its SWAT team is full-time, responding 24 hours a day, seven days a week to things like barricaded persons, active shooting scenes, sniper incidents, terrorism threats, and the service of high-risk warrants. Simply put, the men and women of SWAT deploy on the most perilous incidents, in which the lives of Seattle community members are often on the line. The team averages around 190 to 200 missions a year. Every time we think about Seattle SWAT, this quote, written in 2023 by a SWAT sergeant, echoes in our mind: “The members of the SPD SWAT team are aware, and acknowledge, that by the time they become involved, the situation has become so dangerous that they will have to put the safety of others before their own.” That pretty much says it all. 💙🚓🚔 Our favorite thing about SWAT is that they are kind, funny, and the most humble group of humans you’ll ever meet. With that, they are wholly devoted to the preservation of human life. Their capacity for service is significant, and we are endlessly grateful. Thank you, SWAT, for all the lives that you save, and all that you do to keep the Seattle community safe from harm. #PoliceWeek #policeweek2024 #specialops #seattleswat
