SELF - Special Education Leader Fellowship reposted this
In early 2022, at SELF - Special Education Leader Fellowship when talking with leaders across New Orleans, we heard three problems: ❌ Schools were struggling with baseline compliance with IEPs ❌ District SPED Leaders were spending so much of their time onboarding + “training up” new teachers ❌ New teachers were leaving at alarming rates (less than 1 in 2 teachers stayed past the first year) In response, and close partnership with New Schools for New Orleans - especially Jahquille Ross, Ed.D. - and the biggest CMOs in NOLA, we launched the New Special Education Teacher Fellowship (NSTF) designed to support first + second-year new teachers. We set up to leverage economy of scale to provide the strongest vision of excellence for new teachers while having high levels of support and accountability. With school and district leaders, we worked collaboratively in a series of working groups to co-design: 🌟 Program outcomes 🌟 Content alignment 🌟 Mechanisms for strong 2-way comms and ongoing feedback And we’re proud of the initial results so far. And our programming continues to get even stronger in year 3 under the leadership, love, and skill of our team - especially Associate Partner, Darren Jasper, Jr., M.Ed, M.A.T.
