Have you ever tasted a dish that took you back to your childhood or reminded you of a loved one? That’s what happened when Chef Noe prepared a traditional Colombian soup for residents. The smell, the spices, and the flavors brought one resident back to her homeland and cherished memories. Sometimes, all it takes is the right dish to brighten someone’s day. Whether it is a warm bowl of pozole (Mexico), Caldo de Gallina (Peru & Ecuador), Caldo Verde (Brazil), or Sancocho (Colombia, Venezuela, Dominican Republic & Panama), comfort foods have the power to lift one, especially on a sick day. In community living, residents enjoy meals from around the world prepared by an outstanding culinary team. Read the full story about Chef Noe and the power of food below: https://lnkd.in/duwsNcsY #HispanicHeritageMonth #Nostalgia #TasteOfHome #SeniorLiving #Careers

Sequoia Living Turns 67! In 1957, the formation of Sequoia Living (formerly Northern California Presbyterian Homes, Inc., NCPH) was approved by the Presbytery of San Francisco on October 3. However, the nonprofit was officially an entity in January 1958 with a mission to provide homes and services for healthy and joyful aging. Fun Facts: The Sequoias Portola Valley (see photo 1 & 2) was the first retirement community built by NCPH. The newly elected Board of Directors, the governing body of this nonprofit, selected a site featuring 42 acres of rolling forest and meadows, just seven miles from Palo Alto. For more on The Sequoias Portola Valley's history, visit: https://hubs.la/Q02Sdqrt0. The next property was The Sequoias San Francisco (see photo 3), followed by The Tamalpais Marin (see photo 4), and in 2020, Viamonte at Walnut Creek (see photo 5)! For more on our life plan retirement communities (or, CCRCs), visit: https://hubs.la/Q02Sdvp80. But that's not all— much has happened between 1957 to today! In 1967, Community Services (formerly Services for Seniors.) was established, learn more about this program: https://hubs.la/Q02SdtTy0. In the 1970s, apartments for low-income older adults were created. For more on Sequoia Living's affordable apartments, visit: https://hubs.la/Q02SdjpL0.
