Automating Google searches at scale: (replaces browsing google/prospect websites) This is a great way to qualify/score accounts at scale. And to find accounts, of course. it's a 2 part process: The first is automating the google search query. The second is gathering and structuring the data. Let’s get into it. #1 – Automating the Google search query. Serper is fantastic for this. (Alternatives are Clay-gent, manually typing into the google web browser) Google search results in 1-2 seconds — $375 for 500,000 queries. Use cases: Have accounts that your SDRs would do research on Google/their websites? Define what they look for. ↳ Keywords on site, {if they mention AI}? ↳ Annual report? ↳ “Funding”? Here’s a search query for all 3: site:howtouseclay(.)com "AI” site:howtouseclay(.)com "Funding” Amazon(.)com Annual report 2023 For my first 2 above — copy/paste them into your browser. Remove the () of course. The 1st search has results = it worked (HowtouseClay has that keyword often on-site) The 2nd search doesn’t have results = it worked (HowtouseClay doesn’t have the word “Funding” anywhere on-site/blogs etc) The 3rd search is great too - it will scrape the very first result that pops up. 👇 Once you define which google search queries you want to automate… [e.g. ask your team “When we do manual account research, what do we look for?”] …Now it’s time to use Clay to replicate this process – thousands of times over. Head into Clay, have your list of target accounts with their websites in a column In your table, go to add enrichment → HTTP API Put “POST” as your Method Then, put add your Endpoint (in gif) Then click ‘Save and Don’t Run’. We need to add in the search for each row you want to do. Create a text column > edit column > add → site:{/your domain column name} “{the keyword you want to see on their site}" Remove the {} above. Final product is in this format: site:howtouseclay(.)com "AI” Name your column: Serper-dev Input Now – go back to your HTTP API enrichment column and add that newly created /column like this: {"q":{/Serper-dev Input} [Like in the gif/video] Scroll down to Headers and for *KEY* add in “X-API-KEY” And for value, add your API key for Serper.dev (serper(.)dev/api-key) Now run 10 rows to test it, if it worked – you’ve successfully just saved your team thousands of hours of google/website searching. BONUS TOOL: Using Firecrawl (great tool recommended by Hans Dekker) Or ZenRows. I’ve been playing around with Firecrawl recently and it’s fantastic – I like it better than Zenrows and it has a few more use cases. You’re able to scrape/crawl websites ($83 to scrape 100,000 websites, that is unbelievable..) After you automate your google search query, if you want to crawl/scrape the URL you just gathered – this is how. There’s a Zenrows integration in Clay, which makes your life 100x easier. Just add in your API key. Hope this was valuable Cody
