Our Food Bank is celebrating a huge win in our fight to end hunger. We helped lead statewide policy and advocacy efforts for AB 518, new legislation that will aid increased enrollment in California's CalFresh (SNAP) program. AB 518 requires the state to develop a methodology to estimate CalFresh participation rate and identify characteristics of Californians who are eligible but not yet receiving the services. This strategy must be developed on or before July 1, 2025, in consultation with advocate representatives, County Human Service Agencies, and the County Welfare Directors of California. We are tremendously grateful to Governor Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom, who signed the bill into law this past week, and the leadership of the bill’s authors Assemblymembers Buffy Wicks and Corey Jackson. Their collective efforts could help millions experiencing food insecurity obtain CalFresh benefits, significantly reducing hunger in our state. We are also deeply appreciative and inspired by the activism and leadership of AB 518’s coalition partners whose hard work has enabled greater access to CalFresh — one of the most effective tools to address hunger in California.”

It's our team's favorite time of year again - Service Day! This week, our team rolled up our sleeves and partnered with the incredible SF-Marin Food Bank for an afternoon of giving back. In just 1.5 hours, we packaged a whopping 450 boxes 📦 totaling 13,000 pounds of food 🤯 all destined for families in need across our community. But it's more than just numbers. Service Day is our chance to unplug from the daily grind and bond as a team outside the office while making a difference in our city. A huge shoutout to SF-Marin Food Bank - not just for hosting us, but for their tireless work year-round. They ensure families in our city have reliable access to healthy food, a mission we're honored to support. And a big thank you to our very own Lucy Huang, CPA for planning a special afternoon. Days like these remind us why we love calling this city home. Here's to making a difference, one box at a time! #CommunityService #GivingBack #FoodSecurity #TeamVMG

We’re excited to share the news: Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 2786 (Certified Mobile Farmers' Markets) into law! We extend our deepest gratitude to Assemblymember Mia Bonta who was our champion for this legislation and committed to healthy, food access for all. We created the first state law for mobile farmers' markets in the country! With passage of this law, we now have a legal definition of certified mobile farmers' markets in California to maintain integrity and promote even greater access to fresh, culturally-relevant foods in our local communities while supporting small-scale farmers. The California Department of Public Health will now be able to include mobile farmers' markets in their state plan of operation for the WIC Farmers' Market Nutrition Program to allow families to use their benefits at mobile markets. Our success is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our community. Thank you to the 200 people who sent lettters of support, which made this victory possible. We couldn’t have done this without the incredible support from Assembly Health Committee consultant, Eliza Brooks, who helped us amend our way to success! Thank you so much for joining us, The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco!
I would like to thank SF-Marin Food Bank One Big Table event last night. It was truly inspiring to see some of the most influential chefs and restaurants from the San Francisco food scene come together for a cause that means so much to me. This incredible charity provides home-delivered groceries, supporting better health and independence for seniors and neighbors with disabilities. They operate 250 pantries, offering fresh groceries in a farmers market-style setup, and are currently helping over 53,000 households each week, with more than 1,000,000 meals distributed weekly. It was an unforgettable experience, and I’m so proud to support such a meaningful cause.
