Bringing a sense of arrival, identity, and hospitality to the Salem Hospital campus 🏥 Salem may be known for its spookiness, but the newly transformed Main Lobby of Salem Hospital proves that healthcare can be both inviting and modern, shedding light on a once dreary entrance. Inspired by the organic and coastal elements of Salem’s geography with a nod toward aspirational growth and commitment to the local community, visitors are welcomed under a new canopy and guided down a brightly lit terrazzo, curvilinear path. Light and reflective materials make the most of the lobby's limited height restrictions due to the untouched hospital spaces above. The design of this space and resulting interior architecture provides a space for patients, families, and staff an opportunity to rest, restore, and peacefully transition from outside to inside. Transforming College Life: Housing and the Student Experience, Part ✌️ Whether a campus is large or small, urban or rural, colleges and universities can offer student housing options that best serve their unique student populations. From shared dorm rooms to private apartments, selecting the right type, scale, and variety of housing is important when determining what to build. Are micro unit-style dorms the right style of student housing? Traditional dorms? What about a converted office building, that seems part of so many conversations right now? The mod life 🥼 Designed to support Harvard’s growing innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, Pagliuca Life Lab provides much-needed space for life science ventures. The modular design of the building expedited the project timeline for completion in seven months, nearly 60% faster than traditional design delivery. The second-floor features 36 lab benches that are individually assigned as well as two fume hoods, and a walk-in environmental cold room that is shared among users. The lab bench area was deliberately designed without spaces for writing, to draw individuals downstairs.
