When we come together as a community, we have the power to bring hope to our youth and make a profound and positive difference in their lives. At Sheppard Pratt, we reach 15,000 children each year through our programs and services. While there is so much need, there’s still so much more we can do! Thank you to The Baltimore Banner for inviting me to iMPACT Maryland to discuss how we’re impacting the youth mental health crisis. Grateful to First Lady Dawn Moore, Israel Rocha from Kaiser Permanente, Miss Maryland Bailey Anne, and John-John Williams IV for the thought-provoking conversation.

A recent study conducted at Sheppard Pratt by senior psychologist Dr. Faith Dickerson, identified lower cognitive functioning as a significant risk factor for natural cause mortality among individuals with schizophrenia. Dr. Dickerson states that the study is among the first to demonstrate that these outcomes also include earlier natural cause mortality such as from cardiac disease or cancer.
