✨️ COMMISSION SPOTLIGHT: "Agents of Young Roots" is a mixed-media installation (10' x 35'), created by Chicago-based artist Christophe Gausparro for our international tech client's new Illinois office. 💡 The idea for his commission was to celebrate how technology and social media have and will continue to transform the way people connect with the world. The graphic figures represent humanity, the tangential lines and forms symbolize connectivity, and the 3D elements suggest “youth culture,” which the artist considers to be social media’s lifeblood. 🎹 All the 3D elements (stereos, turntables, speakers, computer equipment and laptops, skateboards, snowboards, waterskis, and musical instruments) were sourced from local vintage and thrift shops. Many of the 3D elements were also partially painted to seamlessly fuse with the graphic mural design in the background, and the "different ethnically diverse faces were screen printed at various scales using a duotone graphic paint style." 🙏 Thank you, Christophe Gausparro, for working with us and our client on this very special project. We look forward to a future collaboration! #christophegausparro #slateart #slateartconsulting #corporateartconsulting #artconsulting #contemporaryart #artanddesign #artconsultant

✨️🎺 Recently got to catch up with the amazing Nick Dong and visit the stunning commission he did with SLATE Art Consulting on the Stanford campus! 🎺 ✨️ COMMISSION SPOTLIGHT: "The Brightness of Music" Artist Nick Dong | Decommissioned Stanford Marching Band instruments, wood veneer, acrylic mirrors, 96” x 96” x 24” Artist Nick Dong creates experiential sculptures, objects, and installations based on light and pattern. In this one-of-a-kind mandala patterned-installation, Nick celebrates Stanford's community spirit while giving these band instruments a second life. Based in Oakland, Nick Dong 董承濂 is a conceptual metalsmith, mixed-media sculptor, and socio-commodity engineer. From a multidisciplinary maker/craftsman practice he founded studioDONG, and leads a team to produce experiential sculptures, objects, and installations combine an advanced knowledge of materials and techniques with a goal of engaging an audience’s experience beyond the optical. As a Taiwanese-American, Dong identify himself as a 21st-century continuation of Wen-ren 文人, the Chinese cultural lineage of intellect-scholars, in which each work is a quest of self evolution, a vehicle of sharing philosophy. By carefully integrating scientific and handcrafted components, supernatural movements, light, sound, and various interactive or situational strategies, Nick's work produces a fully immersive event, only complete once a viewer steps into the space and an encounter is initiated. This commission is part of SLATE Art Consulting's work with @stanford to create a custom art program for the school’s new on-campus residential community. The result is a varied art collection using such unique materials as decommissioned books from the Stanford Library and instruments from the Stanford Marching Band to photograms featuring flora and fauna collected on the Stanford campus. Nebraska artist, Jennifer Radil, recently created a large-scale 4’x8’ mixed media artwork on paper mounted on wood panels for one of our multi-national tech client’s lobby just outside Omaha. The site-specific commission titled “Ancient Migration” posed some real challenges for Jennifer around working at such a large scale. In order to avoid the need to frame the piece behind glass, Jennifer also needed to figure out how to mount her painting on paper made with watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, ink, leather, vintage maps, and collaged paper. The struggle was real, but Jennifer successfully merged her artistic vision with new techniques, creating a striking focal point with a sense of place that invites viewers to explore the themes of journey, migration and connection inherent in the work. Jennifer states “Each spring more than 80% of the world’s sandhill cranes gather on Nebraska’s Platte River as part of their ancient migration north. Wind powers the data center in Springfield and enables the birds in flight. I’ve oriented the cranes so that they seem to be headed towards the openness of the lobby’s floor-to-ceiling windows. Bathed in the sun’s hues, the trio crosses over the Platte’s wetlands and sand bars. (Here the blue, indigo, and violet indicate land. The peach and heretofore unpainted areas are the water which will reflect the sunset.) While the birds all share a mission of reaching the River to sleep or cornfields to feed, this snapshot shows them in varied poses. It felt to me an apt metaphor for individuality within a work force. Employees can be asked to resolve a common issue and each person’s approach might be slightly different. This diversity can ultimately feed innovation. It certainly makes the journey more interesting.” Jennifer, thank you for taking on the challenge! The commission is stunning! #sitespecificart #omahaartist #nebraskaartist #artanddesign #womenartists #localartist #womenownedbusiness #wbenc #nebraskaartconsultant

And just like that, after over a year of planning and design, Brian Barneclo completes his second mural with a protective clear coat for the new construction project known as "Portside" on Harbour Way in Richmond. These murals memorialize the diverse workers (including many women) who helped to win WWII by building massive ships on this very site in the early 1940s. Curated and project-managed by SLATE Art Consulting on behalf of Brookfield Properties, for the City of Richmond's Public Art for Private Development program. (More photos to come in a few weeks when the fencing is down, the landscaping is finished, and a sculpture is installed!) @brianbarneclo @brookfieldproperties @cityofrichmondca #muralsbayarea #publicart #RichmondCA #Ricmondcahistory #Rosietheriveter #wendythewelder

We’re flying pretty high right now. It’s always such a treat, and feels so good when you get the opportunity to work with fantastic clients who trusted SLATE Art Consulting, the amazing artist they awarded the commission to, and also the process that it takes to create a 14’ long custom site-specific painting that will enhance and activate their newly remodeled lobby in Union Square. The project, and this beautiful beast of a commission created by California Artist Tobias Tovera, came off without a hitch, and our wonderful client is thrilled with the outcome. #artcommission #artanddesign #artatwork #sanfranciscoartconsultant #californiaartist #tobiastovera #diffussionseries #womenownedbusiness #wbenc

SLATE Art Consulting believes that everyone, regardless of their economic means, deserves to come home to beautiful and stimulating works of art. Recently, SLATE had the great privilege of working with Satellite Affordable Housing Associates on one of their newest affordable housing communities, THE GRINNELL, in Berkeley, a six-story property for families and people with special needs. SLATE commissioned local artist, Corinne Smith @crittysmitty to create six fabulous and colorful hand-painted murals in the main lobby and in each of the five elevator lobbies on the upper floors to serve as a way-finding tool for residents, and enhance and “lighten up” each of the six floors in the building. The building’s ground floor includes a studio/gallery space leased to Creative Growth, the Oakland based nonprofit art center that advances the inclusion of artist with/DD in contemporary art. SLATE also placed original artwork from Creative Growth artists as well as open edition artworks on paper and canvas in the building’s corridors and community areas. #artforall #affordablehousing #sahahomes #supportsmallbusiness #supportlocalartists #berkeleyartconsultant #bayareaartconsultant #womenownedbusiness @wbenc @SLATE Art Consulting

COMMISSION SPOTLIGHT: "Murmuration" by Rob Snyder, cast glass For a very special Stanford installation, glass artist Rob Snyder created 300 hand-casted glass birds, which form a “murmuration.” The work symbolizes the power of individuals working in harmony as a group. It is also a metaphor for Stanford’s students leaving campus to flying out into the future, where they will impact the larger world beyond. Rob Snyder studied glass work in Portland and Seattle before going on to build a career as a successful studio artist. He has shown with galleries across the country and has placed dozens of works in both private and corporate collections. IN HIS OWN WORDS: “Conceptually my art weaves stories relating to essence and matter, chaos and form, fragility of nature, and the developing human spirit. I see everything as a dance of life; everything in constant motion, transforming and evolving in a universal flow of upward movement. This is seen in both the natural world, and in human consciousness. Patterns in life will always collapse if they are not supported by an upward movement. Nature does this so eloquently; we as humans, a bit more clumsily. But nevertheless, we are constantly moving and evolving, manifesting from the unknown—bringing forth form out of the formless. ✨Contact info@slateart.net for inquiries. #robsnyder #slateartconsulting #slatecontemporary #stanford #stanforduniversity #contemporaryart #bayareaartconsulting #artconsultant #education
