In Part One, the Series explored the challenges in diagnosis and management of endometriosis with commentary from leading scientists and clinicians, including: Dan C Martin, Katherine Burns, and Laura Payne. Part Two addressed diagnostics and access to care with commentary from three entrepreneurs working to improve diagnoses, including: Ridhi Tariyal (NextGen Jane, Inc.), Yana Aznavour, MD, PhD (Endometrics) and Jessica Ellen King (FlowIntell). Endometriosis Foundation of America's 15th Annual Patient Symposium (https://lnkd.in/e-B_uEYY) last weekend provided patients and those who care about them a great community and some wonderful resources! The insights shared by the brave endo warriors who told their stories moved me in a visceral way. These women were desperate having searched for years to find an answer to their pain; it’s inspiring to hear them open up so that others don’t have to go through what they did. Tamer Seckin, MD, FACOG, ACGE (founder of EndoFound) moderated a panel Saturday afternoon highlighting the support that family members gave to their loved ones suffering from endo. Among them were Ciji and Miguel Castro who shared a journey of pain, infertility, and multiple miscarriages (and also, three beautiful daughters). Even after having children, Ciji remained in pain. Miguel searched the country to find a doctor that could possibly relieve Ciji’s suffering. The good news is they succeeded and the two of them are kind enough to share their quest with others. Carolyn Mayer who runs the ENPOWR Project (which developed and provides an adolescent education and advocacy curriculum), took the stage Sunday morning to explain the program and introduced two of the volunteers helping to spread ENPOWR. Milcah Macatiag is a nurse, nevertheless it took her 15 years to get her diagnosis. The other volunteer, Jacqueline Cecil, is a high school senior who was hit early and hard by endo. The good news is that both of them have found relief, and they generously want to spread the word so that others don’t suffer in the dark. Great week at the Reproductive Health Innovation Summit in Boston! Good to see old friends and catch up on progress—and—good to meet new friends and learn about the exciting projects they are working on. Mark Connell spoke on the Wednesday afternoon panel addressing endometriosis. The moderator, Lyndsey Harper, MD, FACOG, IF (Rosy Wellness), did a great job orchestrating the different voices into an informative session. Shannon Cohn, producer of the endometriosis documentary "Below the Belt" (viewable by searching PBS), provided the patient perspective that drives everything we do. Pioneering entrepreneur, Heather Bowerman (DotLab) spoke to the challenges in diagnosing endo, while Juan Camilo Arjona Ferreira Camilo (Organon) brought perspective from his decades of drug development experience. Mark provided the entrepreneurial take on moving a therapeutic idea into clinical trials at SLBST Pharma. Spoke with great entrepreneurs like Valentina Milanova 🇺🇦 (Daye) and Shelley Amster (3Daughters) who are taking old products (like tampons and IUDs) and reinventing them in game changing ways.

Time to Prioritize Endometriosis! That’s the call from three leading researchers (Linda Giudice, Andrew Horne, and Stacey Missmer) and they’re right. It’s about time to make some progress.   Published in Nature Communications, they outline the scope of the problem, highlight the pain afflicting tens of millions of women, and call for policy and research to focus on addressing this unmet need. An amazing day in Boston saw the ”Awakening of Women’s Health” panel, which featured six biotechs each working to solve a different problem in women’s health.
