Creating smiles, one job at a time!

About us

Smile Farms creates meaningful work opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities at local farms, urban gardens, greenhouses, and farm stands where they can grow and sell flowers, plants, and produce in their communities. Smile Farms partners with non-and for-profit organizations to develop agricultural campuses that employ adults with developmental disabilities, a population with a high rate of unemployment. Each campus is a revenue-generating business that can use the funds earned to support both its participants’ employment and its mission.

Never underestimate the power of planting a seed. 🌱 Did you know? 🪴 Smile Farms was founded in 2015 by the McCann family, in collaboration with Independent Group Home Living Program, Inc. [IGHL], where it served people with developmental disabilities. From a single greenhouse, Smile Farms Inc. has grown into a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit with 13 campuses providing jobs for people with disabilities in agriculture and hospitality! Try our hot sauce! 🌶️ Heat With Heart is made entirely from peppers grown by our Smile Farmers. https://lnkd.in/edN2iCsT 📸 Peppers harvested this season at Smile Farms’ League Education and Treatment Center Brooklyn campus!

On July 10th, Smile Farms Inc. supporters filled all the seats at the iconic Rao's in Harlem, an exclusive Italian eatery that graciously opened its doors to help us raise over $40,000 for Smile Farms. 👏 The event was more than just a delicious meal—it was a testament to the power of community and inclusion. Attendees enjoyed Rao’s renowned hospitality, including a touching moment highlighting the restaurant's commitment to inclusive hiring practices. Seeing our shared values in action underscored the difference we can all make together. 🍝 We are deeply grateful to Rao's and long-time Smile Farms champion, Greg Calderone for securing this remarkable opportunity, and our generous attendees for making this event a success. We're already planning on returning to Rao's next year and hope you'll join us in making an even greater impact! 🌱 For more information, contact David Minder at dminder@smilefarms.org!

What’s growing? 🌱 📍 Smile Farms Inc. at the League Education and Treatment Center This campus in Brooklyn, NY serves adults and children with psychiatric and intellectual disabilities. 🌿 Smile Farmers tend eight raised beds, a hoop house that allows for year-round operations, and a sensory garden. Farmers work throughout the week to grow peppers, cucumbers, flowers, and herbs. Crops grown at Smile Farms at LETC are sold in-house and at the Park Slope Farmers' Market throughout the growing season. 🌶 The program at Smile Farms at LETC also hires Smile Staffers to work in the hospitality field, in connection with Chef Tom Colicchio's restaurant group Crafted Hospitality. 🍽️

For over a decade, 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, INC. Summer of Million Smiles (SOMS) program has empowered team members nationwide to volunteer in their local communities. This year, Smile Farms Inc. was thrilled to be chosen as the SOMS Charity of Choice! 👏 Throughout the summer, company offices from Jericho, NY to Medford, OR were abuzz with activity, hosting pop-up sales of our Heat with Heart hot sauce to raise funds for Smile Farms. Nearly 400 bottles of hot sauce were sold, raising an impressive $4,215 to support our mission. 🌶 Many participants found the experience deeply meaningful. Rodney Jean-Bart of Bloomnet/Napco reflected, “I’m very proud of the Jacksonville office for being able to come together for a good cause. I was personally touched by stories that were shared from a few employees with their own individual experiences. I’m thankful that this sale was able to put a voice for those that go unheard.” 🌱 We are so proud to be the signature philanthropic partner of 1-800-Flowers.com. Thank you for your continued support!
