Low is the 17th historic woman honored through the American Women Quarters™ Program, a partnership between our museum and the United States Mint. Her 1948 U.S. postage stamp is featured in the National Postal Museum collection. Low’s legacy lives on in the nearly 2 million members and 50 million alums around the world. Check out my adventure with the precious 3-year-old giant panda, Bao Li (we ate lots of snacks)! So grateful to the zoo and Smithsonian Institution for the opportunity. This was a surreal experience! East Jordan (Established circa 1891, East Jordan, Michigan) is a town in northern Michigan with approximately 2,239 residents. Over recent decades, the seasonal agricultural industry and other factors have attracted a small but growing group of Spanish speakers from Latin American countries and the southern US to the area. Angela Barrera, a Spanish teacher at the East Jordan Middle/High School, observed that numerous students were unfamiliar with the Latino community, while many Spanish-speaking parents felt uncomfortable participating in traditional school activities. Students also recognized a lack of meaningful opportunities for engagement. In response, a student-led initiative emerged in 2023, focused on cultivating connections through culinary and linguistic exchanges. With events such as Noche Latina (Latino Night), the students’ work extended beyond the school, attracting participants from the broader region. Looks like a few presidents snuck out of their frames… 👀 The Washington Nationals Racing Presidents stopped by our National Portrait Gallery before their #OpeningDay game tomorrow. If you’ve been to the Portrait Gallery’s “America’s Presidents,” these four will be familiar faces: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abe Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt.

Juliette Gordon Low (1860-1927) founded Girl Scouts of the USA, which has served over 50 million members for 113 years. The 1948 3-cent Juliette Gordon Low Issue stamp from the National Postal Museum collection features her portrait and the Girl Scout Trefoil. Today, Low appears on the newest coin in the American Women Quarters™ Program, a collaboration between our museum and the United States Mint. 🗓️ Celebrate her legacy this Wednesday, March 26, at 4:00 p.m. at the National Postal Museum in Washington, DC, with Girl Scouts of the USA and Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace Museum.
