Building a more inclusive world through soccer

About us

Soccer Without Borders’ mission is to use soccer as a vehicle for positive change. In the USA, we provide newcomer refugee, asylee, and immigrant youth with a toolkit to overcome obstacles to growth, inclusion and personal success. Internationally, our programs engage under-served communities. What We Do: We provide team-based programming to youth who are traditionally excluded from sports-based and extracurricular activities. Our activity framework provides participants with an avenue for positive engagement, a platform for personal growth, and a toolkit for a brighter future. That framework includes: soccer play and instruction, team-building, civic engagement, off-field education, and cultural exchange. Through these activities and with the support of caring coaches and mentors in a close-knit team environment, youth gain access to the skills and networks they need to reach their potential. Where We Work: Soccer Without Borders currently operates 7 year-round programs in 3 countries on 3 continents. Please visit www.soccerwithoutborders.org for more information on each of our program sites. [Soccer Without Borders is not in any way affiliated with Doctors Without Borders. 🇳🇮 Trabajando en equipo, aprendemos más! (Working as a team, we learn more!) BIG news, YOU can join us in Nicaragua for TEAM Camp 2025! Happening January 13-17, SWB Nicaragua is bringing together girls from the local Granada community for team-building, leadership workshops, and (of course) lots of soccer. 🗣 Melisa, a volunteer at our most recent TEAM Camp, reflected about her visit: "Speaking from experience, soccer has made me the person that I am today," said Melisa. "It is from my personal experience that I can say with 100% confidence that the skills those girls learn during camp will benefit them in every way possible beyond the soccer field." We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about advancing gender equity in soccer and helping underserved youth reach their full potential. Soccer fans, athletes, students, teachers, and coaches are welcome—no prior soccer or youth development experience required. Sound like you or someone you know? Happy National Coaches Day from Soccer Without Borders! ✨ Today and everyday, we celebrate our coaches for all of the meaningful work that they do in supporting the development of the youth in our communities around the world. From creating safe spaces for participants to be themselves to attending their graduations + supporting their milestone moments— SWB coaches are truly more than just a “coach.” ⚽️ At SWB, we often refer to our coaches as “practitioners” as they provide direct service to newcomer youth and are critical to success of sports-based youth development work. These SWB practitioners have a holistic lens of our youth’s needs and are role models on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. 💙 SWB practitioners utilize their unique lens to support our youth to thrive across the many different aspects of their lives. With this in mind, we want to take this day to celebrate the incredible work that is being done across our teams— on the field, and within the hearts of all of who participate in our programs. To our practitioners— thank you for all you do to ensure our communities feel safe, healthy, and seen. 🫶🏽

Last month, SWB Executive Director Jennifer Tepper had the honor of being a Keynote Speaker at the Online Sport Leadership Program (OSLP) Summit 2024 in Tuguegarao City, Philippines. During her keynote, Jennifer highlighted SWB's mission of using soccer as a vehicle for positive change, emphasized the power of networking with like-minded changemakers, and shared her insights on nonprofit fundraising. The OSLP Summit is dedicated to bringing together sports leaders and coaches to collectively shape Philippines sports while fostering collaboration and promoting Olympic values for community growth. The summit was co-founded by notable figures in Philippine sports: founder and convener of the Mindanao Peace Games, Coach Noli Ayo, and former Olympic swimmer Akiko Thomson-Guevara OLY, who received the Olympian for Life Award for her efforts in using her Olympic experience to make the world a better place. The event was generously hosted by Tuguegarao City Councilwoman and former volleyball player, Charo Soriano. The event also featured a lineup of inspirational sport-for-good speakers, including Ilse Vanhoorelbeke, owner of Otentiko in Belgium; Pearl Managuehlod, Board Member of the Philippine Olympic Committee; Mary Joy Tabal OLY, a trailblazing long-distance runner; Angeline Gervacio, Co-Founder of Beach Volleyball Republic and Director of the FEU Volleyball program; Paulo Tatad Executive Director of the Philippines Sports Commission; Erika Dy Executive Director of SBP; and Gretchen Ho, broadcaster, television presenter and former volleyball player. Stay tuned for more updates about the conference, Jennifer's experience, and the crucial role that summits like these play in driving positive social change through sports.
