🌾October 16th marks #WorldFoodDay! The World Food Forum in Rome, Italy is celebrating this monumental moment as the FAO is approaching it's 80th anniversary. This day marks a commitment to transforming food systems to make the right to nourishing food a reality for all. At the WFF, Ashlyn J. Anderson is participating in the cross-cutting youth-led dialogue to recognize #WorldFoodDay across countries and cultures. The theme of the #righttofood connects to research she conducted on right to food policymaking in Mexico through the General Law for Adequate and Sustainable Food. More than a legal document, this commitment means ensuring nourishing, sustainable food is accessible and affordable for all. But ALL means engaging young people in food, which is a core focus of the WFF. She shares several key insights related to youth involvement in the agrifood system: 🌟 In order to change the solutions, we need to change the questions. At the problem identification stage, we must ask ourselves, is the problem really addressing climate smart agriculture, or is it protecting land sovereignty and indigenous rights? ✋🏼 We must unpack "meaningful youth participation" and actively address financial, language, marginalization barriers. ⚖️ Gender equity and empowering women in the food system must go beyond a seat at the table, but actively constructing inclusive spaces for women and young girls in agrifood systems. #righttofood #fao #80thanniversay #worldfoodday2024 #worldfoodforum
