Thank you, Arup, for hosting an insightful panel session yesterday on Adapting Critical Infrastructure to Extreme Weather.
The event brought together key leaders like David Wright, Chief Engineer and Risk Officer at National Grid, Roopesh Joshi, Acting Assistant Commissioner at NYC Department of Environmental Protection, and Eric Wilson, Vice President of Climate Resilience and Sustainability Planning at the MTA.
The panelists underscored the growing urgency for governments and utilities to adapt infrastructure in response to increasing extreme weather events. From last year’s flash flooding in NYC to record-high summer temperatures, it's clear that no city or infrastructure is immune. Their reflections also brought back memories of the widespread concern caused by Hurricane Sandy, which highlighted the need for greater energy independence.
With the U.S. set to invest tens of billions in power transmission over the next five years, we face both a significant challenge and an exciting opportunity to decarbonize. Feeling inspired by the critical role microgrids will play in this transition! #ClimateWeekNYC
