About us
Sound Transit is transforming how the Central Puget Sound region moves by planning, building and operating regional transit systems that give millions of riders an alternative to sitting in traffic. As the agency prepares for nearly a million new Central Puget Sound residents by 2040, transit services are expanding to meet today’s growing needs. Thanks to voter approval of the largest mass transit expansion in the region’s history, Sound Transit’s light rail system will grow to four times the size it is today. When complete, the 116-mile light rail system will stretch from Everett to Tacoma and connect major job and population centers in Seattle including South Lake Union, Seattle Center, Ballard and West Seattle. It will also extend east to Bellevue, Redmond, Issaquah and Mercer Island. As Sound Transit grows, we seek innovative, technical and creative professionals who are ready to come on board and make a difference. Career opportunities include information technology, finance, construction management and engineering positions. Apply today at www.soundtransit.org/jobs.

Last week, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of Sound Transit owning Union Station (dedicated as the agency's headquarters on Oct. 16, 1999). Opened originally in 1911 to service Union Pacific and Milwaukee Road trains, the station closed its doors in 1971 and sat empty for nearly 30 years before being renovated for our headquarters. It seemed fitting that Union Station was brought back to life as a public transit provider and community hub, and that its Great Hall was later named for the woman who was Sound Transit’s CEO for 15 years before retiring in 2016. If you haven’t visited Union Station or the Joni Earl Great Hall recently, come in and check the informational display about the past, present, and future of this iconic space.

Sound Transit/King County Metro Transit launched its Mobile Classroom today! A fine mix of King County teachers, students, and Sound Transit/King County Rail employees sought to inspire each other on the value of public transportation in creating a more sustainable world with greater access to all a person needs to succeed in life. What are we inspiring? We are inspiring experiential learning that can influence more engaging school curriculum providing greater ideas on how systems thinking can create a world that will benefit the young and future generations to come. Thank you Sustainability Ambassadors and Peter Donaldson for initiating a partnership with us as we hope to leverage what we learned to impact schools and communities in a truly positive way. The Sound Transit/KC Rail team was strong and the narrative and education provided by Supriya Kelkar, AIA LEED AP, DBIA, Gaurav Kaushik, Tim Newberry, Steven Dong, Lucile Chich, Sudha Sunkara,Tim Marsden, Gwen McCullough, and the magnificent Nasir Khudaiberdiev created a synergetic learning experience. Thank you Claudia Balducci for championing public transportation thus laying the structure for success of your community now and far into the future. Thank you, craig delalla, Eza Agoes, Gavin Schaefer, Olivia Rother, and Katie Navidi for providing rich content for the teachers and students to develop curriculum. Thank you Terri Mestas and Julie Honeywell for sponsoring this effort that can be so uniquely positioned to create a synergy with our schools and communities. #kingcounty #soundtransit #sustainabilityambassadors #brightfutures

What an incredible week for transit professionals in the Queen City! CATS welcomed over 25 nationwide industry leaders for the Eno/MAX program, a collaborative professional development opportunity designed by the Eno Center for Transportation. Participants join a cohort with partner agencies, and over a year, spend a week at each agency developing relationships, deepening their knowledge, gaining new perspectives and creating a project to implement within their agency based on what they've learned. This year, 8 brilliant leaders from across our organization were joined by representatives from DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit), Los Angeles Metro and Sound Transit. We've had a blast learning from and alongside you, and it was an honor to welcome you into the Crown! A special congratulations to CATS' 2024 Eno/MAX participants: Lavernia Boyd, Dietrich Brown, Jim Fatula, Keith Hawkins, Jonathan Miller, Stanley Thomas, Eric Williams and Tiffany Jerry. We are so proud of your leadership initiative and commitment to learning! 💙👑 #Professionaldevelopment #EnoMAX
