Syrup Tech announced its newest demand forecasting model today—this time, powered by neural networks. The technology, which is meant to function in a way similar to the human brain, allows the model to make complex data correlations, which can then be turned into insights on supply, demand and allocation for fashion brands and retailers. My latest for Sourcing Journal takes a deep dive on how the system works, what it can be used for and more. Thanks to James Theuerkauf for the time spent chatting! Syrup Tech wants to help fashion brands and retailers add something sweet to their bottom lines, not just to their pancakes. The New York-based technology company announced Tuesday it has launched a new model, slated to help companies with demand forecasting and product allocation. It’s powered by neural networks, a form of artificial intelligence that can ingest data, process it and find correlations between significant points.

The lighting-fast trend cycle may slowing down as shoppers look to savor sartorial moments. That’s according to trend experts at the Magic trade show in Las Vegas last week, who said consumers are looking to reuse and repurpose items in their closets. “Trends are really lasting longer and longer, which is great because we’re seeing more sustainable pieces, quality goods, and things they’re not having to turn over,” Kelly Helfman, president of Informa Markets Fashion, told Sourcing Journal. “A lot of these [trends] have repeated from season to season,” she explained, noting that “the trends that we spoke about in February have just evolved a little bit.”
