The Upper Nile State government has suspended the Community Development Committees responsible for managing the 3% oil revenue shares designated for local development. In a letter dated September 9, 2024, addressed to the national Ministry of Finance and Planning, State Governor James Odhok Oyay directed that all communications regarding the oil share be routed through his office. The long-awaited project to build a modern oil refinery is finally here! Spearheaded by Chinese firm Shengli Oilfield Keer Engineering and Construction Company (Sokec) and South Sudan’s Nile Petroleum Corporation (Nilepet), this initiative marks a major milestone in the nation’s development. On August 26, 2024, Sokec and Nilepet signed an MoU in Juba, committing to start construction immediately. This refinery will enable South Sudan to refine its own crude oil, reducing dependency on foreign refineries, boosting local industries, and creating jobs. 🌍💼 Wu Song, President of Sokec, emphasized the company’s eagerness to enhance production capabilities and operational efficiency in South Sudan.
