This week, World Vision successfully delivered emergency response medications to returnees and refugees entering South Sudan through Joda Boda in Renk County, Upper Nile. This effort aims to improve the management and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases that are currently widespread in transit centres. This initiative is part of the Emergency Health Program funded by World Vision USA. We were also pleased to host a visit from the EU in Emergencies (ECHO) team at the transit centre health facility supported by World Vision. The ECHO team witnessed and commended the life-saving interventions provided to the returnees and refugees, particularly for women and children. Additionally, the ECHO team visited the Romello Primary Health Care Unit (PHCU), where they noted the integration of health, nutrition, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. They saw how emergency responses are blended with routine health service delivery, supported by The World Bank and UNICEF through the Health Sector Transformation Project (HSTP). Through the HSTP, World Vision ensures that returnees and refugees receive secondary health care for severe cases requiring hospital-level management. We maintain a 24/7 referral system to ensure doctors are available at Renk Civil Hospital to address all severe cases. "Many people think this place (Gangura Payam) is hard to reach, but World Vision has come here to support it. Our work as the government is to help these communities grow their resources and build wealth. By working with World Vision and local farmers, we can make our local economy stronger," said Western Equatoria State Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Hon. Alison Barnaba, during the recent visit of state government authorities in Yambio County communities that World Vision supports. The delegation included Gibson Friday, the Director General of the State Ministry of Agriculture and Environment; Samuel Zigizo, the Director General of the State Ministry of Animals and Fisheries; Angelo Achuil, the World Vision Area Program Manager for Western Equatoria; Beeyo Simon, the Project Manager of Yambio Food Assistance; and Miyen Joseph Riak, the Project Manager of the Malakal Food Assistance project. According to Angelo Achuil, World Vision Area Programme Manager, more than 1,225 families received assistance in Western Equatoria through the World Food Programme's Conditional Cash Assistance. "We are grateful for the support from the World Food Programme, KfW, and the German Development Bank. We work closely with the government, farmers' groups, and the community. Because of this teamwork, we have been able to help many families in our state," said Angelo. "Our approach is not to do things for the community, but to work hand in hand with them, fostering a sense of unity and shared responsibility," he furthered. Local farmer John Anibiko, who has 18 children, said the project changed his family's life. He now earns about 200,000 SSP from farming rice and groundnuts, enabling him to provide for the needs of his children. Today October 24, 2024 is World Polio Day. It’s a day to celebrate the #efforts, #hard work, #resilience, and #strength of the health workers, care takers, community leaders, and volunteers in the fight against polio eradication globally under the theme #One Day. One Focus: Ending Polio. This day reminds all actors about the fight against polio and that polio can be eradicated if we all join hands together to create awareness about the virus, emphasize the importance of vaccines and maintain good hygiene and sanitation of the environment where we live to allow children enjoy life in fullness. This is the day for ministry of health and partners to reaffirm their commitment in creating enabling environment and mobilizing resources for polio eradication. For polio eradication to be successful, we need #enough vaccines accessible to all children including those in hard-to-reach and remote locations so that no child is left behind. The World Vision led CORE Group Partners Project (CGPP) South Sudan will commemorate this day in five counties of Tambura in Western Equatoria State, Morobo, in Central Equatoria State, Malakal in Upper State, Wau County of Western Bahr el Ghazal and in Pibor Administrative area. “I urge everyone to take their children for immunization starting today. Your child will be healthy and strong. Let us embrace peace and fight against polio and not ourselves”, said Hon. Matthew Mabenge, Commissioner of Tambura County. With support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the CORE Group Partners Project (CGPP) is supporting integrated community-based surveillance for acute flaccid paralysis (AFP), measles, yellow fever, Ebola virus disease, and adverse events following immunization. CGPP also supports immunization systems strengthening to boost the immunity of children against and other vaccine preventable diseases through demand generation activities such as mother-to-mother group meetings, tracing, tracking, and referral of immunization defaulters, unvaccinated newborns, pregnant and lactating mothers to the nearest vaccination sites for vaccination. The project also conducts quarterly periodic intensification of routine immunization to supplement health facility vaccination and outreaches in hard-to- reach areas and villages with no functional health facilities. #CGPP #Worldpolioday2024 World Vision World Vision East Africa CORE Group cmmb World Health Organization

Earlier this month, we held a start-up workshop to officially launch phase II of the #JoiningForces for Food Security and Child Protection in Emergencies (JF FS-CPiE) Project in Mangalla Town Payam in Central Equatoria. Phase II of the project underscored the remarkable cooperation and coexistence of the internally displaced people, host communities, and local authorities in ensuring vulnerable children are well-nourished, protected, educated, and participating—a responsibility shared by all stakeholders, including the host community and IDP community members. In a symbolical gesture for peaceful coexistence and cooperation, the workshop participants held hands as the director of the Central Equatoria State Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare encouraged the three communities in Mangalla (Mundari, Bari, and IDP), children representatives, parents, and state and local authorities to continue working together for the children’s future. World Vision will implement the project in four locations: Source Yubu and Tambura in Western Equatoria State and Munuki and Mangalla in Central Equatoria State. The project aims to reduce violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation of children affected by crisis and food insecurity. The Phase II of the JF FS-CPiE Project is a multi-country project of more than 16 million euros funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) funded Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany and is implemented in five countries: Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, and South Sudan. The project places a specific emphasis on the critical interlinkage between food security and child protection risks in humanitarian settings, recognising that unmet basic needs, particularly food needs, pose a significant risk leading to detrimental outcomes for children. Here in #SouthSudan, JF FS-CPiE is implemented by World Vision and Save the Children South Sudan. World Vision World Vision Germany World Vision East Africa

#Zerohunger can be achieved in Gogrial East county in Warrap State, ‘if we all act now.” This was the message highlighted by the local communities, partners, and faith actors, and Honorable Mabil Ater, Deputy Relief Rehabilitiation Commission Chairperson for Warrap State yesterday during the commemoration of the #WorldFoodDay and the sub-national launch of the #ENOUGH campaign to #endchildhunger and #malnutrition in Warrap State. "Despite the challenges we face in South Sudan, let’s imagine a South Sudan, a Warrap State, a Gorgrial East where no child goes to bed hungry, where every child thrives with proper nutrition, and where children's voices are heard in decision-making. This is a dream and a vision we can make a reality with your support as we celebrate World Food Day 2024 with the theme 'Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future’,” said Dr. Bilonda Madeleine Matungulu, World Vision zonal manager in Greater Bahr el Ghazal. The food insecurity situation further deteriorates in Warrap State. Between April - July 2024, more than 1.45 million people face acute food insecurity. World Vision implements humanitarian and development initiatives in six counties focusing on child protection, education, health and nutrition, food security, economic empowerment, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) while providing emergency relief to people affected by nature-induced or human-made disasters. Oct 16 is #WorldFoodDay and this year’s theme is “Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future.” We invite you to #imagine #ENOUGH -- a world... a South Sudan... where every child enjoys ENOUGH nourishing food so they can thrive. Together, we can make it happen. No child will suffer from hunger and malnutrition if WE ALL ACT NOW. What ENOUGH means to South Sudan? We acknowledge that ending child hunger and malnutrition is complex and multi-faceted. We’re taking a systems approach in addressing it by looking into the interdependence and interconnectedness of various themes: ✅ Food security and livelihood ✅ Peacebuilding and security ✅ Child protection and participation ✅ Child health and nutrition ✅ Water, sanitation, and hygiene ✅ Education Ultimately, “ENOUGH is about #Partnership and #Cooperation -- acknowledging each stakeholder’s contribution and commitment; about #SharedResponsibility -- ending child hunger and malnutrition requires collective efforts that address the root causes; and about #Focus -- about prioritizing what works best on key cost-effective and high-impact interventions that balance saving lives of children and building livelihoods for families and communities.” ~ Mesfin Loha, World Vision South Sudan country director It takes a nation to protect the future generation of South Sudan. It takes a nation to raise a healthier generation of children. Together, we can have ENOUGH for children. World Vision recently launch ENOUGH campaign -- a campaign to end child hunger and malnutrition -- in South Sudan last 25 September 2024. World Vision was honored to host a visit from a high-level UNICEF delegation, led by Unicef Deputy Executive Director Ted Chaiban, in Renk County in Upper Nile State yesterday. The visit provided an excellent opportunity for World Vision to highlight the ongoing emergency WASH, health, nutrition, and protection interventions for the returnees and refugees fleeing the conflict in Sudan. It also served as a platform to discuss the challenges faced by humanitarian actors in responding to the influx of displaced people from Sudan and to acknowledge the collective efforts being made to address the needs of vulnerable individuals. During the visit, the Unicef delegation visited World Vision's emergency health clinic, which sees nearly 250 patients per day and provides a wide range of services, including outpatient curative consultations for both adults and children, an expanded immunization program, antenatal care, clean and safe delivery, health education and promotion, family planning, clinical care for survivors of sexual assault, psychosocial support, and emergency referrals. Additionally, World Vision implements the Health Sector Transformation Project (HSTP), which is funded by the World Bank through UNICEF. Through the HSTP, World Vision ensures that returnees and refugees receive secondary health care for severe cases requiring hospital-level management. World Vision also maintains a 24/7 referral system and service delivery and ensures that doctors are available in Renk Civil Hospital to attend to all severe cases.
