Throughout October our teammates have been raising awareness about breast cancer. This month, we have been especially inspired by Alabama Power System Support Analyst Angel Johnson-Everett and her family's story. Recently featured on "The Jennifer Hudson Show," Angel shared their journey of loss, strength, and faith. Angel's sister, Eboni Faith Johnson, encouraged her to write to the show to help others stay vigilant about breast cancer. Despite Eboni's courageous battle, she ultimately lost her fight on July 2. Angel, a breast cancer survivor herself, emphasizes the importance of early detection. “Our motto is ‘if you feel something, say something.’ We advocate for a personal relationship with your physician and seeking a second opinion before making any major health decisions,” Angel advises. Watch their full story and be inspired to take charge of your health. https://lnkd.in/e-46F9ME

As we continue to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Helene, Georgia Power Company will use this funding to enhance grid flexibility, improve resilience against extreme weather and ensure our communities have access to clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy. Learn more about how these projects will benefit communities across Georgia: https://lnkd.in/gxbDpT-u
Georgia Power has been awarded more than $160 million in funding by the Department of Energy (DOE) through its Grid Deployment Office. As Georgia continues to grow, we are ensuring that customers have access to clean, safe, reliable, and affordable power, and actively pursued the funding available under the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) Program established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help reduce the costs of necessary investments for the benefit of customers. Investments under the GRIP Program are intended to enhance grid flexibility, improve the resilience of the power system against extreme weather and ensure American communities have access to affordable, reliable electricity when and where they need it. Projects funded by the grant will be varied and will benefit communities across Georgia. As Georgia Power continues to transition to cleaner forms of energy and transform its electric grid, investments in the state's transmission system – the high voltage power lines that transport electricity from generation sources to individual communities – are critical. Hurricane Helene was the most destructive storm in Georgia Power’s 140-year history. In the wake of the storm, Georgia Power and the Southern Company system mobilized 20,000 personnel to restore power to over 1.5 million affected customers. Supported by Alabama Power, Mississippi Power, Southern Company Gas, Southern Linc and dozens of other partners, they executed a coordinated response while rising to the challenge. Crews faced impassable roads, floods, and severe damage, often rebuilding the grid from scratch. Our teammates went above and beyond, clearing debris, donating food, and even coming out of retirement to assist with restoration efforts. The Southern Company system has pledged over $3 million to recovery efforts. Together, we are committed to supporting our customers and rebuilding our communities across Georgia. Hurricane Helene was the most destructive hurricane in our company's 140-year history. I've spent a great deal of time in the field with our teams and neighbors over the last several weeks and, while I felt disbelief at the devastation I saw, I am inspired by the kindness, resilience and fighting spirit exhibited by our employees and neighbors. Please click to read this open letter from me to all Georgians following this historic storm. For your kindness, compassion and patience, thank you to our Georgia Power customers, communities, employees and partners. More than ever, I am proud to be a Georgian, proud to be a part of this team and grateful to be a part of this community.

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, and as Hurricane Milton bears down, Southern Company, Georgia Power Company, and Southern Company Gas charitable foundations are united in their commitment to aid affected communities with $3 million in donations for relief efforts. In addition to helping customers, neighbors and communities affected by Hurricane Helene, the companies are providing emergency support to hundreds of employees impacted by the storm – many of whom were or are engaged in statewide restoration efforts. We’re grateful to the thousands of personnel who worked around the clock to restore power for Georgia over the past two weeks, and to those who remain on the ground ensuring our customers have the energy they need. As our Helene restoration efforts continue across the state, our crews are continuing to work through devastated areas using every method possible. In some cases we have to use boats and helicopters to access transmission lines and damaged infrastructure - check out the vegetation management team working with crews in boats navigating a flooded right of way. The damage has been extreme in the hardest hit areas - and we have 20,000+ team members working right now on restoration. When we say we’re doing everything we can to get the lights back on, we mean it. By water, by land and by air. Thank you and stay safe.

Sun up to sun down and throughout the nights, our crews continue to work for Georgians. In some of the hardest hit areas across the state, including Augusta and South Georgia, we are seeing catastrophic destruction of our infrastructure - rebuilding the power grid and not just repairing. We are continuing to work around the clock to restore power for our customers quickly and safely. Know that the team is all hands on deck and we will not stop working until every person who can be restored, is restored. Please continue to stay safe and thank you.
