We're proud to shine a light on a special group this week – it's Emergency Nurses Week! South Shore Hospital's emergency nurses provide front-line care for both adult and pediatric patients during stressful, vulnerable moments. Over the past year, our Emergency Department has regularly faced extended periods of unprecedented patient volume due to increased demand for emergent care in our region. Our emergency nurses and their colleagues have responded to these high volumes with inspiring commitment, treating each patient with compassion and respect. We appreciate our community's continued support for our emergency nurses and their ED colleagues. Happy Emergency Nurses Week! Thank you for all that you do! Please join us in congratulating Emergency Preparedness Manager Joan Cooper-Zack, RN on her retirement after a remarkable 38 years with South Shore Health! Joan started her career as a nurse in South Shore Hospital’s Emergency Department but found her calling in the field of emergency preparedness, where she developed an emergency management program that is widely admired by her peers. Through her tireless leadership, Joan guided South Shore Health through a number of challenges, including extreme weather events and the COVID-19 pandemic. Joan also planned and led countless training sessions and simulations, both internally and with regional first responders and emergency management agencies. Thanks to the foundation Joan has laid, our Emergency Preparedness program is in good hands, led by Matthew Cotugno, Director of Emergency Preparedness & Business Continuity, and Karla-Ann Shakes, Project Manager. We’re grateful for Joan’s tremendous contributions to South Shore Health and our community. We wish her the best in retirement. Thank you, Joan!
