"I think there's a stigma in society that people with disabilities should be left to the side, so I find joy in being challenged and being treated with a high expectation," says Becky, who turned to Spaulding for her recent rehabilitation journey. Becky received the support (and challenges!) she needed from Spaulding's therapy team and special donor-supported programs. Thank you to all our donors who support Spaulding and make stories like Becky's possible! Learn about your impact: https://bit.ly/3YJw6ng.

Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital had great representation at American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association in Miami! I’m proud to work alongside amazing clinicians who presented their incredible work and loved spending time with current and former Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital colleagues! It was also wonderful meeting new friends who share a passion for inpatient rehabilitation!

Get to know Matthew Klos and his story from patient to clinical researcher for the Spinal Cord Injury Model System (SCIMS) at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. In 2016, Matthew had a rare accident occur in his spinal cord called an Arterial Venus Malformation, resulting in him becoming a T10 Complete Paraplegic and full-time manual wheelchair user. During his patient stay at Mass General Brigham, he was introduced to David Estrada, JD, as a peer mentor. David serves as program manager for the New England Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center at Spaulding. "We instantly connected and became good friends. After 7 years of living with a spinal injury I felt like I had something to offer others especially those who are a part of the same community. It meant a great deal for me to be able to work at Spaulding as a disabled person because it felt like they were committed to their mission: finding your own personal strength, your own journey, and overcoming adversity," says Matthew. In his role, Matthew helps individuals who have spinal cord injuries decide to take place in studies at Spaulding. "I'm in direct contact with other people who go through what I go through every day. There have been many times we have found people who have slipped through the cracks of care and been able to bring them back into Spaulding to improve their health. It's very comforting to work for an organization that accepts me exactly for who I am and sees my disability as an asset."

The Spaulding / Mass General for Children Lurie Center recently held its second annual, inclusive, low-stimulus Trunk or Treat. Kids who might be unable to take part in traditional Halloween activities were able to do so in a calming and sensory-friendly environment. Thank you to the teams who created this fun and accessible event!

What an amazing night celebrating and supporting pediatric rehabilitation medicine! Thanks to our generous sponsors and donors, Spaulding's inaugural Strength Soiree has raised more than $620,000 to help our youngest, most vulnerable patients come back from some of the most challenging medical conditions and return to being kids. Thank you to event co-chairs Dan Jones and Matt Pullen, emcee Lisa Hughes, our sponsors, including presenting sponsors Michele and Howard Kessler, Spaulding leaders and clinicians, and our incredible comeback kids and their families, for making this such a meaningful evening for an important cause.

Thanks to the extraordinary conservation efforts of Mass General Brigham clinicians and staff, we will resume our full procedural schedule starting today, Friday, October 18, without any case deferrals. We will continue to monitor IV fluid usage and supply closely, with conservation measures remaining in place to ensure safe patient care. We appreciate your ongoing support and will keep you updated on any further developments.
