Today, we serve more than 42,000 registered athletes and unified partners, making Special Olympics New York the largest program in the United States and the sixth largest program in the world. Special Olympics New York has its headquarters in Schenectady, with offices in the Long Island, New York City, Hudson Valley, Central, Western, Capital and Genesee regions. MISSION The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This gives them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. FUNDING SOURCES Special Olympics New York is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and is funded primarily by donations from individuals, corporations and foundations. Special Olympics New York never charges athletes, their families or caregivers to train or compete.

Last night, Taylor Mead-Patterson (Director of Health Programming), Donna Cantrell (FUNFitness Clinical Director), and Billy Seide (athlete and Health Messenger) gave an outstanding presentation to students at New York University's Department of Physical Therapy! Taylor, Donna, and Billy delivered an #InclusiveHealth introduction, demonstrated a fitness screening, shared volunteer information, and more. Great job to them all!
It's time to say hello to October's NY Able Athlete of the Month...Danielle LaRose! Danielle is a tremendous teammate in softball, bocce, and floorball. Not only does she work diligently on her own game, but she also strives to better those around her. She loves Special Olympics NY and is always looking to contribute more to our organization!
