This week, we had the pleasure of hosting staff from Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan's Office and the Senior Services Coalition of Alameda County for Meals on Wheels ridealongs in the Tri-Valley 🚗 Led by our Program Manager, Carrie, as well as our amazing volunteers, Jenny and Susan, both teams experienced firsthand the impact of our senior services as they delivered meals directly to our clients' homes 🍽️ We appreciate their support and commitment to our community. His leadership extends beyond real estate, as he serves as Chair of the Fundraising Committee at First Place for Youth, aiding youth in transitioning from Foster Care. Please join me and my colleagues this weekend to ensure our Governor Gavin Newsom changes his mind on proposing $111M dollar cut to senior nutrition programs across the state. This impact would be devastating for seniors, putting more Meals on Wheels programs into wait-lists. Already across the state more than 33% of programs are no longer taking new clients, already we are seeing an over 28% increase in food costs and we are needing to address the needs of the fastest growing demographic which relays on these programs in many cases as their sole source of nutrition. We urge you to make a call today to your local Assembly Member and Senator to ensure they push back on this cut. We commend the recommendation from the joint budget committee rejecting the proposal but we need voices to uplift the need to the Governor and legislatures to preserve these resources.
