In 2011, Anthony Katz, a schoolteacher and pickup basketball player, sought a better way to manage knee issues with cold therapy 🦵 At the time, athletes were still using ice bags and bandages, which often led to leaks and messes. Katz decided to create a modern solution, crafting a prototype using black neoprene and Velcro. Through a coaching friend, he connected with Kobe Bryant, who saw potential in the idea and provided valuable feedback. This interaction motivated Katz to establish Hyperice. In 2015, Bryant, after a rotator cuff injury, wore a Hyperice shoulder wrap on the bench, which significantly boosted the product's visibility in the NBA. Following this exposure, other top athletes like LeBron James and Chris Paul began using Hyperice products. By 2020, Hyperice had secured partnerships with major sports organizations like the NFL, MLB, NBA, PGA Tour, UFC, and U.S. Soccer, while its competitor, Therabody, aligned with the NWSL and ATP Tour. The debate intensifies in Philly over the impact of a potential $1.5B Philadelphia 76ers arena 🏟️ Recent analyses have offered different views on how two major arenas might affect the city’s ability to attract non-NBA and non-NHL events. One study, commissioned by the 76ers and conducted by CAA Icon, suggests that Philadelphia’s status as the fourth-largest media market and ninth-largest metro area population means there is room to grow in live entertainment. In contrast, Comcast Spectacor’s commissioned analysis by Hunden Partners predicted a second arena would create a more competitive environment resulting in lower venue rental rates and a “race to the bottom” among the two venues.
