A proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, this Vietnam veteran is dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle.   • St James Parish, the Town of Lutcher, and the Town of Gramercy are proud to present a 4th of July Firework Show at Lutcher Park on Thursday, July 4th, at 9:00pm. Parish President Pete Dufresne said, “The 4th of July is an opportunity to celebrate independence and come together with our families. We are proud to present this firework show and would like to invite all community members to come enjoy the event.” The display will begin at 9:00pm. Residents are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket and arrive early to enjoy the festivities.     Help Beaver secure the WIN! Local resident Grayling “Beaver” Brown has been selected as a top ten finalist for the Silver Sneakers Member of the Year Award! Vote online today through June 28th to help Beaver secure 1st place in this national competition. You can vote once per day. https://lnkd.in/gHpg2uag Grayling's Bio: Grayling Brown, affectionately known as "Beaver", is a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather. As a disabled Marine Veteran, he served his country in the Vietnam War. He is active in the community, his church and advocates to end racial inequality. Beaver is dedicated and committed to living a healthy lifestyle and can be found walking or running on the levee or local track, working out at the Gramercy Anytime Fitness club, attending fitness classes and taking Yoga classes to keep himself balanced, centered and grounded. For Beaver, fitness provides benefits physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. It brings him great joy to inspire others in fitness and in life. “Class is not the same if Beaver is not there,” an instructor shared. "Leave it to Beaver to make this world a better place with his infectious laugh, humor and smile."

  • St. James Parish Employees Graduate from Leadership River Region Convent, LA - Two St. James Parish Government employees graduated from Leadership River Region: Cherish Jasmin and Lindsay Szubinski. The Leadership River Region program is hosted by The River Region Chamber of Commerce. The program only accepts 25 individuals to participate in a ten-month educational program that includes an opening retreat, 7 monthly sessions, and a class project. Manager of the St. James Parish Citizen Service Center Cherish Jasmin said, “This course provided valuable lessons and connections. I am already implementing many of the lessons learned as I lead the Call Center, and in my personal life.” Participants receive in-depth exposure to the critical issues facing the river region parish community through lectures, discussion groups, on-site visits, simulations, and other leadership development activities. Issues to be addressed during the year include healthcare, government and law enforcement, regionalism, education, parish perspectives (2-part session) and arts and culture. Operations Executive Assistant Lindsay Szubinski said, “Participating in this class was a great experience. It was an honor to participate and I would like to thank Parish President Pete Dufresne for giving us the opportunity.” Cherish Jasmin serves as the Manager of the St. James Parish Citizen Service Center, and Lindsay Szubinski is the Executive Assistant to Operations Director Rick Webre.
