Jennifer Dougherty was diagnosed with stage 2 #breastcancer after her first routine mammogram. “In the first moment of hearing ‘you have breast cancer,’ I was in shock. It felt surreal.” She got through treatment with support from her family and her entire community who stood by with food and encouragement. “My toughest days were shared with my husband, Jeremy. He somehow made me feel beautiful even in my moments of darkness. Hair, no hair, after surgery, burns from radiation and then two more surgeries. Love got me through. When someone would feed us, it was the greatest gift along with cheering texts or the extra love they gave to my kiddos.” This #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, Jennifer reflects on the importance of research as it relates to her own journey. “Cancer research made my treatments more tolerable. I could still put my kids to bed and hang out with them. I am grateful for the advancements that help with all the side effects.” And she urges other women to get screened: “Early detection saved my life — schedule your cancer screenings and all routine appointments. My first routine mammogram was on my 40th birthday, which found my cancer early. This unplanned gift has given me a longer life.” 🧡 #StandUpToCancer

Brittany Turner was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer on her 32nd birthday in 2022. “The first thought that crossed my mind was: ‘I'm the same exact age of my maternal aunt who passed away from cervical cancer in 2002’,” she says. Then, she thought, “I've got to beat this.” After six cycles of chemotherapy, plus more procedures and setbacks, Brittany is now post-treatment and in the monitoring phase: “Throughout it all I remembered that I was fighting this not only for myself, but for my husband, family, and every woman affected by this terrible disease.” Brittany encourages women facing the same diagnosis to advocate for themselves and not give up hope: “Every feeling that you have on this journey is correct! It's okay to feel like giving up during treatment, you're going to have days when you want to, but keep going.” This #OvarianCancerAwarenessMonth, we stand up for all those in the fight. Our researchers are working to find new treatments for cancer patients like Brittany everywhere. 🧡 #StandUpToCancer
