This summer, Steve Madden was a proud sponsor of the Open Style Lab (OSL) Summer Fellowship, a six-week program aimed at creating innovative, stylish, and functional adaptive footwear. The program culminated in a Final Exhibition where the fellows launched a call-to-action for the industry, available here: https://lnkd.in/eQvPVrDs Open Style Lab, a Smithsonian award-winning nonprofit, is dedicated to making style accessible for all abilities. As a disability-led organization, OSL places individuals with disabilities at the center of its mission and leadership, driving real change in the fashion industry. OSL recently embarked on comprehensive research which revealed that 47% of people with physical disabilities find footwear to be the most frustrating item to find and wear. So, for their Summer Fellowship program, they brought together diverse teams including individuals with disabilities, occupational therapists, and designers to explore and develop adaptive footwear solutions. Participants utilized cutting-edge technology at Newlab for 3D printing and prototyping, developing footwear solutions that address the specific needs of people with disabilities. In addition to sponsoring the program, Steve Madden provided in-kind donations of shoe samples and gift cards. Looking ahead, we're excited to continue this journey towards a more inclusive fashion landscape, turning innovative ideas into reality. #AccessibleFashion #InclusiveDesign #InnovationInFootwear

Thank you, Footwear News, for naming The Slinky one of the greatest shoes of all time! Here’s when Steve knew the 1994 Slinky sandal would be a hit: “We had been working closely with a factory in Spain to develop some shoes. I took a trip to see our new developments. I walked around the corner and was stopped dead in my tracks by the Slinky. That’s when I knew, to be honest, the moment I saw it,” he said. “It blew up. It was everywhere, and everyone was talking about it.

Transforming pre-loved fabrics into tapestry art ♻️ Last week, employees from our NYC offices came together for a vibrant afternoon of tapestry making, led by our amazing partners at FABSCRAP. Over the years, FABSCRAP has been a cornerstone of our sustainability initiatives. Together, we have diverted 10,691 pounds of fabric swatches and leftovers from landfills, showcasing the immense impact and importance of creative reuse. This event was another step forward in our mission to end commercial textile waste. All the fabric used in the workshop was pre-existing and collected by FABSCRAP, allowing us to extend their lifespan. The workshop was also a testament to the power of collaboration and creativity. Participants worked in groups to select fabrics, design unique patterns, and weave together the colorful tapestries. These lively art pieces now hang in our office, brightening our communal space and serving as an inspiring reminder that pre-loved materials are merely resources waiting for a new purpose. Employees didn't just leave with new tapestry-making skills that can be used for at-home projects, they also carried with them a renewed sense of community and drive for sustainability. Thank you to all the employees that attended! #Upcycling #EndTextileWaste
