SubMerge offers consulting services, pre-purchase, daily operations management and shipboard integration of submersibles

About us

A submersible is not like a luxury roadster you can drive off the lot. In order to prevail in the complex arena of chartering, owning or operating a manned submersible, you will need an experienced guide to lead you through the vast array of decision points. SubMerge offers consulting services from pre-purchase to daily operations management and shipboard integration of submersibles for both personal and professional use. Our skilled team of advisors, pilots, underwater videographers, and expedition leaders have tested and customized purpose-built subs, discovered a range of deep-water species, taken a portfolio of international clients to unforgettable depths, and helped high-net worth individuals direct their conservation efforts below the waterline. Our hands on team will ensure a seamless and efficient experience every step of the way including: • Defining your primary and secondary missions prior to the purchase, design and construction phase, or the installation of an existing sub, ROV or underwater mapping system. • Optimization of the ship’s deck and underwater operations area including a dedicated workshop, oxygen and battery charging. • Define best crew practices for underwater equipment handling both onboard and at sea. • Produce an operational log suite: maintenance, spare parts, battery log, pilot pre checklists, communication, video, observation logs and more. • Oversee class survey procedure and work. • Incorporate mandatory surface control operations along with seamanship protocols.

Ocean Exploration and Conservation: Mapping uncharted waters

It was a pleasure speaking with Meg from Blue Marble Geographics and sharing our experiences and takeaways from a great Sub-Merge expedition in Fiji. Thanks to our great partners Map the Gaps, Cookson Adventures and Pacific Blue Foundation for making this possible! My greatest appreciation is for the community and tribal leaders of Waisomo who have been the guardians of the Bega lagoon for generations.

Episode 4 of the GEOTalks Podcast is available now! In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Tomer Ketter and Sefano M Katz about a collaborative bathymetric survey they performed. The results of this survey highlighted how sharing accessible bathymetric data can impact marine conservation, social equity, and cultural integrity in Fiji. #TechTuesday ~ Marine Technician Tomer Ketter recently shared this image, created from multibeam echosounder data. It shows a true 3D rendering of the seafloor bathymetry — darker tones represent finer, softer sediment, and lighter tones depict harder or larger grain-sized sediment. Ketter explains that the multibeam echosounder uses acoustic energy, such as soundwaves, to measure the distance and angle to hundreds of points on the seafloor simultaneously while also capturing the intensity of the returning signal. Hydrographers on board the ship then use software to process the data and visualize it to make it intuitive to understand the seafloor. 🌊🚢 Reflecting on Our Submersible Rescue Training 🚢🌊 Last year, we conducted a comprehensive submersible rescue training exercise in the Pacific Ocean using a survey class ROV for an ongoing submersible project in the region. This training was performed aboard a unique super yacht for one of our clients. Our team showcased advanced rescue techniques and operational excellence while emphasizing the training of the yacht's crew to assist with operations and highlighting the critical importance of seamless communication for real-time scenarios. This method of rescue and recovery of the sub to the surface using an ROV serves as a last resort solution in case all built-in rescue solutions of the submersible fail. At Sub-Merge, we are committed to safety and maintaining the highest levels of operational excellence. Through fostering strong teamwork and communication, we enhance safety protocols and response times during actual missions. Interested in having us conduct this vital ROV rescue training for your team? Reach out to us to learn more about enhancing your underwater safety protocols. 📞📧 #SubMerge #ROV #SubmersibleRescue

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Maritime Industry We, the Superyacht Training Group, take onboard crew training seriously as part of our remit to enhance safety at sea and to look after all those, be they crew or guests who wish to explore all the planet has to offer. As such, we present to you via this post, our annual summary looking back at 2023 and the key aspects we've identified or believe still need addressing. It's not a long document and should ideally be printed for discussion at crew meetings as well as taken into account at management companies and Flag State offices. We're here to work with you all and subsequently it's only through professional teamwork that we can make this industry safer. Many will deny there are any issues and believe they run a tight ship. Regrettably those are usually the ones who need help more than any other. Thankfully there are many who do recognise the benefit of external training which doesn't in any way belittle their position of authority and if anything, shows a dedication to bring up the next generation of seafarers in a more professional manner. We welcome your feedback and hope to see as many of you as possible out there in this new year.

Last week, we had the incredible opportunity to participate in The International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans! Our president, Ofer Ketter, took center stage as a keynote speaker, sharing insights and expertise in three thought-provoking talks. He discussed the four major sectors where submersibles are being used - private yachts, expedition travel companies, tourism, and for conservation. “Manned deep ocean exploration is stronger than ever,” Ketter said. “The interest has always been there and we’re exploring what audiences of all types are wanting to support.” __________ Thank you to everyone who visited our booth and attended Ofer's talks. We look forward to continuing our journey in pushing the boundaries of submarine technology and underwater exploration. Stay tuned for more exciting updates from Sub-Merge! 🚢 #SubmarineIndustry #UnderwaterExploration #WorkboatShow #SubMergeAdventures

We are deeply saddened by the passing of retired Navy Capt. Don Walsh, a distinguished deep-sea submarine officer, oceanographer, and revered explorer. Don Walsh left an indelible mark on the world of ocean exploration. Captain Walsh was a pioneer in deep-sea exploration, notably recognized for being one of the first to dive to the deepest point on Earth's ocean floor. His explorations and discoveries not only expanded our understanding of the ocean but also paved the way for future generations of oceanographers and scientists. Captain Don Walsh's legacy lives on through his impactful work and the inspiration he provided to those who share a passion for the mysteries of the deep sea. As we reflect on his remarkable life, let us honor and remember the man whose courage and dedication opened new frontiers in the exploration of the world's oceans. #DonWalsh #RIP
