    "The world has tilted in our favor. We’ve been building companies in the data+AI space for 25 years, mostly while it was niche and nerdy. With the AI revolution fully upon us, we’re thrilled to announce that super{set} has closed a $90 million second fund to invest in companies at inception." - Tom Chavez announces super{set} Fund II: $90 million to intensify our serial focus on data+ai company building! (read his post at the #linkincomments) What is super{set}, and why Fund II? > We only build data+AI companies. > We never die in the same ditch twice. > We invest in people, not pedigree. We’re delighted to announce 140 New Montgomery, our iconic Pembroke property in San Francisco, that has long symbolized the convergence of innovation and technology will be bustling with new tenants and renewed commitments from existing tenants. New tenant super{set} is a startup studio that combines data and artificial intelligence to deliver transformational solutions. With its people-first performance culture and company-building playbooks, super{set} founds, funds and scales high-potential businesses. Pembroke also welcomes new tenant, Heidrick & Struggles, the premier provider of global leadership advisory and on-demand talent solutions, serving senior-level talent and consulting needs of the world’s top organizations. 140 New Montgomery’s largest existed tenant, Bloomberg, also has renewed its lease. It is very meaningful for Bloomberg to have such a strong presence in 140 New Montgomery as this art deco treasure that was built in 1925 was the headquarters to Pacific Telephone and Telegraph, a leading innovator in keeping people connected and informed.   Pembroke thoughtfully designs places for people to be their most productive, creative and inspired selves. These talented teams will heighten the spirit of collaboration and innovation that defines this Pembroke property and elevate its purpose.   Thanks to our media partners for sharing our great news. We appreciate your support: San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Examiner, Connectcrédit, RealDeal, Law360   Bloomberg, super{set}, Heidrick & Struggles, CBRE, SFMOMA San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Savills, JLL, #SanFrancisco, Stacey Spurr, Dean McPadden, Bill Cumbelich and Jack Beritzhoff

    Check out the coverage of our recent move to a brand new HQ in downtown SF. - the beautiful 140 New Montgomery St. right next to SFMOMA San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, in The San Francisco Examiner ! "Tom Chavez , founding general partner at super{set}, said his company was growing and needed more space, which it found at an attractive price at 140 New Montgomery. He said the layout and details promote fruitful teamwork. Chavez said that sort of ferment is essential for super{set}, which was previously located not far away in the 100 block of Geary Street and which has launched 14 companies, one of which sold for about $200 million. “With the exposed brick and the natural flow of the space we’re in, it promotes a lot of connecting and colliding,” said Chavez, who moved into his company’s new offices four months ago. “It sounds a little elusive, but the space really creates the soil conditions for superb collaboration to happen.” Chavez said it’s good for his business to be downtown with so much artificial-intelligence activity happening in the area. He also said he has loved San Francisco since becoming a resident nearly 30 years ago, and he is glad to be part of the local “renaissance” he sees underway. “We believe in San Francisco,” Chavez said. “We know it’s on the rise, and I know that there will be a lot of other companies and people coming here to this area very, very soon. I already see them on the street.”" Read the article at the #linkincomments #SF #SanFrancisco #CRE #startupstudio #bayarea #startups

    “Being in the heart of downtown San Francisco is evidence not just of our growth but also of our deep love for this city. As our employees shake off the doldrums of the pandemic and we double down on our commitment to building successful startups centered on data and AI, 140 New Montgomery provides a superb environment for deep collaboration, knowledge sharing, and community engagement,” - Tom Chavez, Founding General Partner, super{set} Read the coverage of our brand new office space in The San Francisco Chronicle at the #linkincomments #SF #SanFrancisco #CRE #startupstudio #bayarea #startups

    Tom Chavez Tom Chavez is an Influencer

    Co-Founder, super{set}

    Born in La Espora, a community of mostly undocumented Mexican immigrants working for the railroad in Albuquerque, my Mom, Rose Chavez, was the last of eleven children. Her parents were orphans: her dad, an Aztec Indian from Mexico who worked for the railroad, her Mom a Basque girl from a tiny, barely existent village in northern Spain. Their first house, a wooden claptrap where Rose was born, had no electricity or running water. The family saved some money and moved to a nicer place, a plain but sturdy adobe house, with running water. They were happy. Until the city put a sewer plant in their back yard. It was a spherical contraption that looked like a huge spaceship from outer space, and it swamped the view from the kitchen. Just as soon as they thought they’d taken a step up, the whole family was literally engulfed in shit. Rose did what she always did when faced with the squalid reality of her family’s poverty: she swallowed hard and swore never to forget. And she quietly began chiseling away at a plan to change the odds. She became the first person in her family of eleven kids to graduate from high school and to take a professional job at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque. She had the insane good luck to meet my dashing father, Ray, at a dance on the base. After marrying Ray, she prayed for 10 kids, and vowed that she'd send them all to Harvard so they'd enjoy the opportunities she never had. The good Lord saw fit to give her just five kids. But she did send every one of them to Harvard, and the five of us have indeed been blessed with absurd opportunities. The biggest blessing of all, of course, was having her as my mom. I’ve said that, with more chances, my Mom would be the CEO of Microsoft and run Amazon as a side hustle. She’s a model of love, faith and fierce conviction. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms -- but Rose Chavez, in particular.
