Nine sites, seven partners, 688 volunteers, and 3,906 pounds of trash! 🙌🙌 We are so thankful to all our amazing partners and volunteers for another great July 5th cleanup. 🙏🙏 In just three hours, we recovered nearly 4,000 pounds of trash 😱 — mainly consisting of single-use plastics — which otherwise would have been washed into the sea, adding to the already critical pollution problem devastating the world’s oceans. Despite volunteers remarking that the beaches seemed cleaner than in previous years, which is an excellent sign that we are headed in the right direction together, we collected nearly 1,000 pounds more than last year (2,832 pounds 2023 total). If you missed us on the 5th, no worries! Check the link in bio for other cleanups coming up. 💪 Thanks again to our wonderful partners and friends from: 🌊 COOLA 🌊 Mitch’s Seafood 🌊 Un Mar De Colores 🌊 PADDLE FOR PEACE 🌊 San Diego Coastkeeper 🌊 I Love A Clean San Diego 🌊 The San Diego River Park Foundation

As we soak up the sunshine and enjoy today’s festivities at our beaches and waterways, we must remember it is also our responsibility to protect these special places and treat our friend, the ocean, with respect. 💙 Check out these helpful tips to keep your beach day as ocean friendly as possible, and donate to Surfrider San Diego to support clean beaches all year! 🌊 Bring your own reusable drinkware instead of single-use plastics. 🌊 Package your food in glass, metal, or a reusbale bag so you can easily wash at home, but remember not to take glass to the beach! 🌊 Pack it in, pack it out! If you have the space to bring it, you’ll have the space to take it back. 🌊 July 5th is the dirtiest beach day of the year, but together, we can turn it into the biggest beach cleanup ever! https://lnkd.in/gjmzFvY4 Donate & become a member here: https://lnkd.in/gshbb48D

Taking a moment to appreciate one of our amazing volunteers 🩵🌊
“The ocean is vast and a vital part of our ecosystem. I like the phrase, ‘Local action has global impacts,’ because I strongly believe that collaborative and ongoing local efforts lead to global consciousness and thus create action.” -Acxel Herrera-Ibarra is a volunteer with our San Diego County chapter. From testing the waters in Imperial Beach to support our Blue Water Task Force program to advocating for our coasts through Surfrider’s Coastal Recreation Hill Day, Axcel is making waves of positive change in his community.
