Nine sites, seven partners, 688 volunteers, and 3,906 pounds of trash! 🙌🙌⁠ ⁠ We are so thankful to all our amazing partners and volunteers for another great July 5th cleanup. ⁠🙏🙏⁠ ⁠ In just three hours, we recovered nearly 4,000 pounds of trash 😱 ⁠— mainly consisting of single-use plastics ⁠— which otherwise would have been washed into the sea, adding to the already critical pollution problem devastating the world’s oceans. ⁠ ⁠ Despite volunteers remarking that the beaches seemed cleaner than in previous years, which is an excellent sign that we are headed in the right direction together, we collected nearly 1,000 pounds more than last year (2,832 pounds 2023 total).⁠ ⁠ If you missed us on the 5th, no worries! A wave of ocean activism crashed upon the State’s Capitol in Sacramento on Tuesday, May 7th. Over 300 advocates from various organizations, including 5 dedicated volunteers and 3 staff from Surfrider San Diego, united to form small teams and meet with state leaders, lobbying in support of crucial legislation aimed at safeguarding our coast and ocean.
