  • Happy #InternationalWomensDay! Today, we're celebrating our team of incredible women of who make change happen around the world through our women-led, women-centered work. With their commitment and insight, families gain safe drinking water, girls stay in school, and entire communities thrive. The global water and sanitation crisis disproportionately impacts women and girls, yet we are the least represented in advocating for our own solutions. We believe that by centering the women's voice and experience (at all levels of our organization) entire communities can be transformed! At Surge, we’ve witnessed firsthand that when women lead, solutions last longer, impact runs deeper, and entire communities flourish. 💙

  • 📣 We're looking for new board members! In the past few years, we've experienced incredible growth. More families now have safe drinking water, more communities have improved sanitation facilities, and more women have been uplifted to lead lasting change! But we're not stopping - we're ready to launch into the next phase of growth. To keep growing, we're looking for passionate senior leaders who have the skills and experience to join our governing board. This is what we’re looking for: 1️⃣ Board Chair: Experience serving on boards, ideally in a chair position. Excellent leadership, communication, and facilitation skills. 2️⃣ Treasurer: Expertise in financial planning and management, budgeting, and accounting. 3️⃣ Additional expertise needed in strategic planning, human resources, donor relations and stewardship, legal, WASH or related sector policy and programs, country expertise for Haiti, Indonesia, or Uganda. If you, or someone you know, have the expertise and experience — and are looking for a meaningful way to give back — comment "board service" below or DM us!

  • All of us at Surge for Water are so excited to partner with Liquid I.V. for their first-ever initiative in Indonesia. Liquid I.V., the #1 powdered hydration brand in America, is generously donating $200,000 to Surge’s efforts in Sumba Tengah — transforming water access for more than 10,400 individuals, including students, teachers, and community members. This funding will be directly responsible for: ✅ 31 rainwater harvesting systems ✅ 4 motorized wells ✅ 228 locally produced water purification filters installed across 76 elementary schools Not only that, Surge will be conducting comprehensive training programs—covering water system maintenance, community ownership, and sustainability. We’ll see a tremendous ripple effect of health, education, and economic improvements across the region. This partnership with Liquid I.V. will help accelerate our mission to reach one million people daily by 2030. Generous partners like Liquid I.V. help Surge collaborate with local community partners to create new programs, expand our existing ones, and significantly grow our impact to help more people facing the global water crisis. A big, heartfelt thank you to Liquid I.V. for giving us an incredible boost to the crucial work we’ll be doing this year.

Humanist, Strategist, Storyteller | Conscious Narratives for Systemic Change | Founder, COLECTIVO

COLECTIVO is proud to partner with Surge for Water, an extraordinary organization breaking the cycle of poverty through sustainable access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions—including menstrual health, a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of gender equity. Through firsthand conversations with local leaders in Uganda, Indonesia, and Haiti, we’ve witnessed how Surge fosters inclusion, collective decision-making, and shared power. Their community-driven approach strengthens local capacity and ensures that communities drive their own transformation. Their commitment to advancing gender equity shows that when women lead, barriers are broken, equity is realized, and generational change is set in motion. As systems of patriarchy and colonialism persist in limiting self-determination, Surge’s dedication to community agency, wisdom, and dignity is more urgent than ever. We’re honored that they have entrusted COLECTIVO to develop a strategic narrative that communicates the depth and impact of their work. Shilpa Alva Sarah Odde Lynch Ashley Quinlan

  • That's a wrap! In 2024, our signature hygiene education program in Uganda reached 20,043 people across Kaberamaido and Kalaki Districts. This program not only teaches students and community members about proper handwashing with soap and water, but also educates them about how quickly germs spread and how to purify water. A huge shout-out to our sponsors who made this program successful! kiklos architects | Certified B Corp™, Sterilex, and MVP Tech We couldn't pick just one photo to showcase the entire year, so take a look at some of our favorite memories! #hygieneeducation #cleanhands #communityimpact #globalhealth

  • Between August and December 2024, 606 young girls from schools across Sumba, Indonesia, learned how to sew and create their own menstrual pads! These sessions - run by our Indonesian partner YLRA - not only taught valuable sewing skills but also opened up conversations about menstrual health and hygiene, helping to break taboos and build confidence. By equipping these students with knowledge and tools, we’re ensuring that no girl has to miss school because of her period! 🩷
