Supporting communities worldwide threatened by climate change by building environmental/economic/social resiliency.
About us
ISC is an international, non-profit organization that works to support communities by creating, implementing, and scaling equitable climate change solutions for communities at the frontline of the global climate crisis. Our unique, bottom-up approach ensures solutions emerge from within communities, rather than being imposed from the outside. By sharing international best practices and experiences, providing technical expertise and training, and building the capacity of local organizations, we support innovative solutions and sustainable change. We address the root causes of climate change impacts by building community knowledge and skills, strengthening governance, and diversifying the field of sustainability professionals. Our approach incorporates capacity building, technical assistance delivery, knowledge products, climate change action planning, and peer learning.

We are thrilled to announce Dalia Rahel Caplan as our new Director of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)! Dalia began her career in the communal non-profit sector 15 years ago. Ever since then, she’s chosen roles that impact the community for the better. Dalia’s key abilities are evaluation, program planning, and organizational change management. She loves data and evaluation work because she believes data is the strongest basis for storytelling, and storytelling is the strongest tool for creating change. Welcome to the team, Dalia!

It’s been a decade since the first Women in the Workplace came out. Real talk: we have *a lot* of work to do. Read the full report at https://bit.ly/3UjvWBq Although we’ve made a little progress in gender equity in the US, there remain significant gaps —particularly for women of color, who continue to be severely underrepresented in leadership. Unfortunately, both gender equity and DEI as priorities are also declining in the US, which could negatively impact future progress. #equity #genderequity #women #leadership #inclusivity

How is gender equity important for climate action? Check out the first episode of our video podcast series featuring Leslie Johnston, CEO of Laudes Foundation. She explains how placing gender equity at the center of decarbonization is essential for meaningful climate impact! Leslie also shares insights on breaking down barriers and why women should be leading the green transition. Watch the full episode at https://bit.ly/3YpGFM6 How are you using gender equity as a stepping stone to achieve greater equality in climate action? People are moving out of areas in the US facing constant climate disasters like hurricanes, flooding, and wildfires. But moving is physically and financially difficult—what happens to those left behind who are unable to move away from the devastating effects of climate change? They become even more vulnerable to climate disasters, which can have lasting impacts on a community. #climatechange #naturaldisasters #flooding #severeweather #wildfires

When we talk about climate disasters, we often focus only on their immediate effects—limited access to food, water, power, and medical care. But while these challenges are devastating and very real, climate migration is also a very real issue. People living in areas which experience repeated climate disasters repeatedly may be forced to move due to financial or safety reasons. Why is a just transition important for climate action? Because while climate action could create 24 million jobs by 2030, only 20% of them will be in female-dominated sectors. Check out ISC’s new video podcast series exploring the role of women in climate action, which features inspiring conversations with female thought leaders across the globe. From skills to finance, see how women are critical in building a sustainable and equitable future. ⚙️🌏 #ClimateAction #GreenTransition #Decarbonisation #WomenInClimate #SustainableDevelopment

#ICYMI: Recording now available! ISC President Rebecca Kaduru spoke at Devex’s Climate Week Summit “The Future Can’t Wait.” This 10 min conversation covers how ISC is working with the EPA and other partners to ensure that critical environmental justice funding makes it to the communities that need it the most—those that are disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis. Hurricanes don’t hit all communities the same way, and some communities face greater challenges with these massive storms. One example is evacuation—while it may *seem* like the easiest way to avoid death and injury from catastrophic storms, not everyone has the same ability to evacuate. Sadly, this hurricane season is just one example of the way that climate change is harming communities. Our hearts go out to those affected by climate disasters like Helene and Milton. #climatechange #hurricaneseason #severeweather

Special thanks Devex for hosting and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for joining us to discuss historic funding for #environmentaljustice! #DevexEvent #UNGA79 #climatechange #funding
$50,000,000 in grant funding is available now through the Institute for Sustainable Communities and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for small, community-based organizations—particularly those with low capacity or resources—to access federal environmental justice funding. Hear from Rebecca Kaduru and Earthea Nance to learn if your organization qualifies, to improve efficiencies to ensure communities that have long faced underinvestment can access the benefits of the largest climate investment in history.
