Today is Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Symetra will be closed in recognition of the holiday. We made Juneteenth a permanent paid holiday in 2020 as one of our commitments to promote racial equity and support social justice. At Symetra, we’re proud to partner with our LGBTQIA+ and ally employee resource group, Friends of Swifty, for an exciting month of Pride activities. We’re sponsoring Pride events in Bellevue and Seattle, WA, and Des Moines, IA, throughout June, and we’re hosting employee events like trivia and a lunch-and-learn session focused on homelessness and housing instability among LGBTQIA+ youth. Hosted by our Social Impact team in collaboration with our African American/Afro Caribbean employee resource group and our DEI Office, the richly interactive discussion explored NCBW’s mission to empower Black women and girls through education, health and economic empowerment, and our four-year partnership to support that mission.
