Ever wondered how 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 started? Back in the 1970s, techniques like edge detection and pattern recognition were already laying the groundwork for today’s technology. In the first session of his Symphly Talk, Marko Miladinovic, Machine Learning Engineer from Nis Branch, walked us through the early days of computer vision. This is the first of a three-part series, where we are diving deep into the interesting world of computer vision! Here are some key points from the first session: • Sobel and Prewitt methods were used to detect object boundaries, making it easier to analyze images. • Early techniques for classifying objects in images helped set the stage for more advanced systems. • Texture and shape analysis improved, paving the way for today’s object recognition technologies. • Neural networks and Support Vector Machines (SVMs) started being applied to vision tasks, introducing AI-driven approaches. • Early computer vision was used in practical areas like robotics, medical imaging, and industrial automation. We’re looking forward to the next session, where we’ll discuss 3D vision, object detection, and how advancements in computing power have supported these developments. Stay tuned!

A few days ago, devastating floods and landslides struck Bosnia and Herzegovina, severely affecting people’s homes and entire communities. In the past, we’ve been continually inspired by individuals and organizations that have shown leadership and compassion in times of crisis. With that inspiration, we aim to do our part and hope it encourages others to contribute as well. As part of this effort, Symphony is making a donation to the humanitarian organization Pomozi.ba to support those affected by this natural disaster. Additionally, our employees are raising further donations, and Symphony will match and double these contributions to ensure our collective efforts make an even greater impact. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Pomozi.ba and to everyone who has tirelessly worked over the past few days, as well as to our Symphony community for continually rising to the occasion when help is needed most. Last week’s 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗷𝗲𝘃𝗼 exceeded expectations with a strong turnout. Faris H., our Data Scientist and Engineer, delivered a presentation on using 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮. His real-world examples engaged the audience, leading to an active Q&A session. Participants raised important questions about the challenges of using 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮, the necessary infrastructure, time and cost considerations, and its long-term impact on machine learning. There was also significant interest in how 𝗔𝗜-𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 might shape the future of data science. The event brought together data scientists, engineers, and AI enthusiasts, fostering interesting discussions. After the presentations, attendees continued networking over food and drinks, further strengthening connections within the Sarajevo tech community. We appreciate Faris and everyone who joined us. This event has set a strong foundation for future TechNotes, and we look forward to continuing these discussions and sharing more insights.
