“All I want to say to philanthropists is go slower, expect less, spend more… We’ve got to apply what we believe about human dignity to everyone we deal with. And yes, that’s more expensive.” In a compelling conversation from the 2024 Synergos GPC Members Gathering, Abigail Disney, Founder of the Daphne Foundation, shares her insights on effective philanthropy with Synergos Founder Peggy Dulany. Disney challenges the "faster, cheaper, better" mentality, urging philanthropists to adopt a long-term perspective by fostering kindness and respect in the communities they work with. This gathering offered philanthropists a unique space to explore the intersection of giving, self-reflection, and contemplative practices, emphasizing the alignment of inner work with outer action for meaningful change. "We believe folks in philanthropy, like many of you here, are working with many cycles. Understand what season your movement is in. Because each season requires a different intervention. And money can inhibit or destroy your movement. That's just the truth. The right things at the right time." - Carlos Saavedra, Ayni Institute At the 2024 GPC Members Gathering, Carlos Saavedra of the Ayni Institute shared powerful insights on philanthropy's role in social movements. He emphasized the importance of recognizing movement seasons and how funding can either support or hinder progress. https://lnkd.in/gMTAKUWr

Childcare centers are a proven intervention to prevent child drowning, the leading cause of death of children ages 1-4 in Bangladesh. Community-based, integrated childcare centers ensure that children survive and thrive, with the coordination of care and development services for the holistic needs of young children and their families. Synergos is proud to partner with the Bangladesh government, along with Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB), BRAC Institute of Educational Development, RNLI and Bloomberg Philanthropies and others, for the government-led program establishing 8,000 integrated childcare centers across the country this year. As a result of this incredible collaboration, the Government of Bangladesh took over management of existing childcare sites and recently completed trainings with the local NGOs who will operate them. Our learnings and connections will grow, as the program deepens its operations, and so will the impacts for children and their families.
