About us
We are Teach For America Houston, and for 30 years, we have been working to solve the education equity crisis. We begin by recruiting talented and passionate educators to join the movement to end educational inequity. Our network of 1,700 leaders spark achievement opportunities for our students each day and aim to set a strong example in the most diverse city in the nation. Currently, we partner with eight underserved school districts-city wide. Our corps members are rigorously and continuously developed, and alongside our seasoned alumni, our network ensures the success of more than 39,000 students each day. We’re invested for the long term. We’re proud to say 77% of TFA alumni stay in education past their initial two-year commitment. Our alumni continue to work towards igniting each students potential by founding 25 of their own non-profit organizations such as EMERGE, ProUnitas, KIPP and YES Prep Public Schools. Furthermore, our alumni are serving in influential leadership positions across Houston and Texas. There’s power in raising your hand, and to change the conversation around education equity nationwide, we’ll need every voice. If you’d like to help us ignite the potential of Houston, please follow us.

Teach For America Houston reposted this
🎉 Another Successful All Network Summit for Teach For America Houston 🎉 I had the privilege of planning and executing an impactful event for over 250 first- and second-year teachers. Our goal was to provide them with the tools and resources they need to support their students in transformative ways. Following the summit, 95% of CMs reported that they are proud to be apart of Teach for America. A highlight of the day was an amazing HIIT class led by Virani Distinguishied School Leader Award winner Cynovia H., energizing our corps members and reminding us of the importance of self-care. Additionally, four of our TFA alum, including Todlin Lattimore and Terrel Everette MPH, led the second-year corps members in preparing for their end-of-year presentations, equipping them with the confidence and skills to showcase their theory of change. We were fortunate to have our friends at LEE, fellow TCU almuna, Christen LaChance, and several wellness practitioners from Restorative Houston join us to support our teachers’ development and well-being. Following the event, we hosted a social at PKL Social, planned by Kazmere Anakwue, M.Ed, which was a huge hit and a perfect way to unwind and connect! A big thank you to ConocoPhillips for sponsoring breakfast for our team and corps members, and to Mandy Gutierrez for graciously hosting us at Herrera Elementary School. Your support made this event possible! We’re off to DFW next, ready to continue this journey of learning and growth. Stay tuned for more updates! #TeachForAmerica #TeacherDevelopment #ConocoPhillips #LearningJourney #ViraniAward #TeacherWellness

TFA alumni from across Texas recently had the unique opportunity to participate in our Texas Schools to Learn From program. Alumni visited Solar Preparatory School for Girls, Prestonwood Montessori, and E.D. Walker Middle School in Dallas. These innovative, high-performing schools provided valuable insights as alumni learned from their exceptional models, leadership, and students.🎉

On this #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we celebrate the strength, creativity, and resilience of Indigenous peoples across the country, while highlighting the youth of the Oglala Lakota Nation in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. Through Outlast Arts and Education, a project founded by LT (South Dakota ‘21), local students are learning to tell their stories through film and media. This film camp provides the next generation with the tools to reclaim their narratives and inspire change in their communities. At Teach For America, we stand with Indigenous peoples’ self-determination, advocating for education and student empowerment as essential pathways to a renewed community and culture. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #LakotaYouth #OutlastFilmCamp #TeachForAmerica
