In anticipation of POW/MIA Recognition Day, members of Team Tobyhanna came together today, Sept. 12, at Tobyhanna Army Depot’s (TYAD) POW/MIA Memorial to honor America’s prisoners of war, those who are missing in action, and their families. This year’s POW/MIA Memorial Ceremony was led by Tracy Thompson of the Production Management Directorate and featured an invocation by Donald Gilchrist of the C4ISR directorate, a performance of the national anthem by Holly Hanson of the Production Engineering directorate, a stirring keynote address by veteran and WBRE/WYOU meteorologist Valerie Smock, remarks from TYAD Deputy Commander Rob Lantka, and the presentation of a ceremonial wreath. This sacred day reminds us that there is a human cost to war, one we must never forget. To the families of those who are missing – Team Tobyhanna stands with you, and we always will. #BeThere | #POWMIARecognitionDay | #UntilTheyAreHome [Image Descriptions: The first image is of an individual planting a POW/MIA wreath to the ground. Team Tobyhanna took a moment to reflect and recharge on Sep. 9, embracing the power of journaling to boost mental wellness in honor of 9-8-8 Day. The observance, celebrated for the first time on Sep. 8, draws attention to the 988 Lifeline – a national hotline for anyone facing mental health struggles, emotional distress, alcohol or drug use concerns or those simply in need of someone to talk to. Guided by the Employee Wellness Center (EWC), attendees had the opportunity to identify and share their perspectives on gratitude, where they feel safe, and how they might grow in the future. #DidYouKnow – Journaling is an evidence-based self-care practice that improves mental health, increases creativity, promotes critical thinking and helps an individual achieve their goals? #TOBY2035 | #InvestInOurPeople | #988Day | #NeverAlone [image description: First and second images depicts an individual speaking in front of an audience. #WorkforceWednesday - As we prepare to kickoff Hispanic Heritage Month on Sep. 15, Tobyhanna Army Depot (TYAD) proudly celebrates the history and contributions of Hispanic Americans to our organization and the DOD! This afternoon, Melissa Martinez of TYAD’s Production Management Directorate shared cherished memories with the workforce - pig roasts (also known as Lechon) in her aunt’s backyard, her grandfather playing the guiro at parties, and bringing enough ethnic food to “feed a platoon” to the beach. Born in Brooklyn, Martinez made several trips to her ancestral homeland of Puerto Rico throughout her life. Aside from music and food, the cornerstone of her rich heritage was family. “What I remember most is that my family was always together,” she added. Together, we are stronger because of the unique perspectives and dedication that Martinez and others bring to the table. #TOBY2035 | #InvestInOurPeople | #ShapeTheFuture [image description: First image depicts an individual standing at a podium, speaking into a microphone. On this Patriot Day, we pause to remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001. Today marks 23 years since the tragic events that forever changed our nation. We reflect on the courage of the first responders, the resilience of the American people, and the unity that emerged from the darkness. At Tobyhanna Army Depot, we remain committed to ensuring our country’s safety and security, inspired by the heroes who stood strong in the face of adversity. Let us never forget the sacrifices made and the strength we found together as a nation. #PatriotDay #NeverForget [Image Description: The image is of many American Flags planted in a field. #FirstResponderFriday – Tobyhanna Army Depot’s (TYAD) Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Branch has been very busy this summer! The F&ES team recently assisted Coolbaugh Township Volunteer Fire Company on the scene of a motor vehicle accident and Pocono Township Fire Department on a structure fire call. TYAD proudly collaborates with multiple agencies across the region as part of the depot’s emergency mutual aid agreements, aligned with our #ConnectingWithTheCommunity line of effort. Team Tobyhanna is extremely grateful for the tireless efforts of the F&ES Branch who helps keep our communities safe, even while we are sleeping! #TOBY2035 | #ConnectingWithTheCommunity [image description: First image depicts a vehicle that has been badly damaged in a crash and subsequent fire.
