We empower girls to become leaders, technology innovators, and real-world problem solvers.

About us

Technovation is a global tech education nonprofit that empowers girls to become leaders, creators, and problem-solvers. With the support of volunteer mentors and parents, girls work in teams to code mobile apps that address real-world problems. To date, 300,000+ students in 100+ countries have participated in programs run by Technovation As one of its core programs, Technovation Girls equips girls around the world with the skills to become tech entrepreneurs and leaders. Its alumnae have gone on to win startup and app-building competitions, speak at events like TEDx Women, IBM India Onward, and Google Science Fair, be named Times Kid of the Year, and receive internships with prominent technology companies, higher education institutions and government agencies. Founded in 2006 by aerospace engineer Tara Chklovski as Iridescent, Technovation has grown from hosting local Family Science nights in Los Angeles to a nonprofit that spans 100+ countries with thousands of individuals who believe in the power of girls, families, and communities to change the world with technology.

Young people care deeply about the planet, and Technovation girls show that every year with their innovative solutions to hunger and food security. Thats why I am so grateful to Gabriela Burian (she/her) 🇧🇷🇫🇷🇨🇿🇺🇸 to have the opportunity to connect with farmers, startups, companies, researchers, non-profits, and governments to explore new solutions to these problems and to make these new connections for Technovation girls. #climateinnovationday

From a Technovation Participant to a Chapter Ambassador for western Uganda!🚀🚀 And that's not even the crazy part 😍 NIMARUNGI the company I found is the program implementor!🎊 How cool is it that an idea that was birthed through skills learnt from Technovation gets to be the same solution inspiring more young girls to build for good! Friends, I'm super super excited!🎉🎊 Back in 2016, I was a Technovation participant, brimming with curiosity and a desire to use technology to solve real-world problems. A little girl with so many questions and ideas. For the last 9 years through different Volunteer roles at I've been able to closely and directly work with 600+ young girls across different parts of Uganda and Beyond; Recruiting, Inspiring and Motivating them to be the answers to the global issues that we have from a localized context. So understand me if I say I'm excited, because now is the time to move the numbers from Hundreds to Thousands with the support of each one of you reading this now. I've witnessed firsthand the transformative power of Technovation. It's not just about coding; it's about empowering young girls to believe in themselves, embrace their creativity, and become leaders in STEM. I've complained several times about education inequality and pushing this program to Western Uganda to school going girls and non school going girls is our way of saying every girl needs a chance to realize their potential regardless of who they are and where they come from. So Yes! Because of this I'm thrilled to be the very first chapter for Western Uganda and to set it up for the coming generation. in empowering the next generation of tech innovators. I've put together an incredible team of volunteers led by Lisa Kaitesi who will be our program manager This journey however can't be possible without the support of you all in your different capacities. 💡Are you a school? You could help us in student recruitment and offer us space and resources to support participants build their projects 💡Are you a community leader? This year we want to engage girls that have dropped out of school, you could help us coordinate and mobilise them 💡Are you an innovation hub, you can be our Skilling Partner, sponsor and event partner. 💡Are you a developer, You can help support the girls build sophisticated AI Projects and Mobile Applications that solve problems 💡Are you a media house, you could give this program the shine it deserves to reach thousands of people 💡You love Ideas? We need You! Kelvin Paul is a social entrepreneur with a passion for bringing STEM education to schools in Tanzania. After securing a number of prestigious science and technology grants in 2018 and 2019 he hit the ground running in 2021 with Technovation. He has mentored seven teams of Technovation Girls while developing innovative portable science kits to reach more than 8500 students in 200 schools in Tanzania. His own experience as a father opened his eyes to how important it is to support girls in STEM education and to challenge societal gender norms. “In an African context, especially in Tanzania, females are used to being the center of transferring knowledge to generations, that's why we have a Swahili saying, "Ukimuelimisha mtoto wa kike, umeelimisha jamii" meaning if you educate a girl, you have educated the community.” His unique perspective as a father, his entrepreneur insights, and his love of science make Kelvin a standout Technovation mentor. #Tanzania #ScienceTeacher #Mentor #GirlsInSTEM

Our youngest division knocked it out of the park this season with connection-centered apps. Whether it be between caregivers and their children at home, hearing impaired young people and their peers, or teens needing a safe way to communicate with a trusted adult, these apps are about caring for each other. Their ideas prioritize local economies through book exchanges that promote eco-friendly ways to connect, and resources for local farmers who help combat hunger in their own communities. We are so proud of their innovative, community-centered solutions.
