TEDxBoston, formerly TEDxBeaconStreet, is one of the most innovative TEDx events in the world. Started in 2010, TEDxBoston has become widely recognized in the TED and TEDx community for our unique vision, multi-generational emphasis, diverse and open audience, Ideas in Action theme, and Adventures throughout the year, it’s aspiration is to be a Laboratory / Test Kitchen bringing innovation to the world. Together, we're creating a powerful community dedicated to lifelong learning and setting ideas into action.
🔥 Fires are a natural and essential part of many of Earth's ecosystems, playing a key role in the regeneration of various species. But, the increasing occurrence of megafire highlights a critical ecological imbalance.
4 big mistakes that got us here:
🌲 Displacement of indigenous practices
🌲 Vast deforestation 100-150 years ago
🌲 Fire suppression policies
🌲 Climate change
In the wake of the hottest year ever recorded, and 100+ years of fuels build up and failing ecosystems, our personal encounters with smoke and wildfires have become alarmingly frequent. The answer lies in restoring our stewardship relationship with nature. Read more about this on our blog: http://bit.ly/3vtOyFt

Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to watch a TEDxBoston talk featuring Asegun Henry introduced to me by John Werner.
Asegun, an MIT professor and a visionary in the field of energy technology, presented his groundbreaking work in developing sustainable energy solutions. His invention, which includes the ‘Sun in a Box’ thermal battery concept, is not just an impressive scientific feat but also a source of inspiration for me. It reminds us that what once seemed like science fiction can indeed become reality with innovation and persistence. Watching Asegun’s journey and achievements motivates me to think bigger and push the boundaries of what’s possible.

Cows burp. It's a real problem. That's because cow burps emit methane, a greenhouse gas that warms the planet more than 80x faster than CO2. So make cows burp less--easy, right? Not exactly, because what makes the cows burp varies constantly.
This startup is using AI to consistently measure and optimize cow microbiomes, which reduces methane and increases milk production. Win, win! Dr. Yaniv Altshuler is an experienced entrepreneur and an industry-leading expert on Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis. Yaniv has published three books on the theory and applications of Artificial Intelligence, over 70 scientific papers, and filed 17 patents. His research has been covered by Harvard Business Review, Financial Times, Davos World Economic Forum, Communications of the ACM, IEEE Spectrum, and others.
After receiving his PhD in Computer Science, Yaniv worked with MIT Prof. Alex "Sandy" Pentland on the development of the new field of Social Physics. Over the past decade Yaniv used his expertise to advise leading financial institutes and government agencies worldwide. He is Founder and CEO of Metha.ai, a company applying AI for climate change mitigation in agri-food by reducing Methane emissions from cow burps.

The world is racing to reduce CO2 emissions and achieve net-zero goals by 2050, but what about methane, a potent greenhouse gas that warms the planet faster than CO2 in the short term.
Tod Hynes, an expert in climate and clean energy, believes that a global prize could accelerate the search for solutions, just as it has for other complex engineering challenges. He has extensive experience in this field, having co-founded organizations, raised over $500 million, and mentored students launching climate and energy companies through MIT.

Excited to begin to share the talks from last month's #planetarystewardship event. Check out Irina Gerry's talk on creating real dairy without the cows.
🐄 > 🛩 Did you know raising dairy cows contributes more emissions than the entire aviation sector?
🐄 > 🌎 And requires the land area equivalent to North + South America combined??
🧀 = 💛 But who wants to live in a world without cheese?
